To begin, this play is about a man named Lucentio who is in love with a woman named Bianca. Lucentio wants to court Bianca but is unable to because her sister Katherina must be eloped first. A man by the name of Petruchio is able to fulfill this task and make her obedient to him and gets rid of her horrible attitude. In the end of the play Bianca and Lucentio are able to get married. Katherina is known to be the compliant wife. In the story, Shakespeare uses comedic devices to develop the plot of the play.

For example, “Family Drama” was a comedic device that was heavily used in the play and was a factor in the plot of the story. As stated in the beginning that was drama in the family regarding Katherina and Bianca as well as their father. Bianca wanted Kathrina to finally get married so she would be able to do the same. Katherina’s attitude made men stay clear of her. Bianca was upset by the fact that her fate depended on Katherina. Katherina on the other hand wanted to know her father favored though she subconsciously knew the answer to that question. Katherina was very stubborn before she met her husband. What Katherina did realize was that her stubbornness not only her but her sister as well. This goes along with the plot very well and even helps the plot to be known or developed perfectly.

Furthermore, another comedic device that was used is “Young love with a struggle”. This also goes into the plot and helps with its development because this is what the play is all about. Two people who love each other are not able to be together due to a rule set by the girl’s father. Lucentio tries many ways to be with Bianca and make her love him. Bianca does eventually fall in love with Lucentio but is still bound by her father’s rule. “Unexpected plot twists” is another comedic device that used the play. The plot twist was defiantly a shock to the reader because Katherina was able to fall in love with someone. No one would believe that Katherina who is known as the “shrew” could actually be tamed by someone; but she was. This gave Bianca the freedom to marry Lucentio in which she did.

In conclusion, each of these comedic devices helped the plot come into a flourishing success. Without these devices the play would be hard to understand and relate to. Each device was able to work together to give the play the meaning it has. The devices built the plot and gave it and ending that was just and understandable. Which why the author used them to give his play and or story the life and the growth is needed and William ended it with a happy and beautiful ending for the characters.
