The battle of Gettysburg made a big change on slavery in the north, That all men are created equal, and if the south would be independent or not. The most significant battle of the civil war was the battle of Gettysburg because it is said to be the turning point of the civil war, and the battle had the most casualties than any other battle in the civil war.

The Battle of Gettysburg was a battle fought between the generals Robert E. Lee and General George G. Meade. The battle started on July 1st,1863  after the confederacy or the south crossed the Potomac. The battle of Gettysburg was fought in Adams country, Gettysburg PA and lasted three days to July 3rd,1863. The Union ended up winning when the confederacy tried charging on the union but failed and got pushed back into the south.

The reason the battle of Gettysburg started was because the confederacy wanted independent and to push slavery into the north and they thought the only way to get independence was to push on to the union or to win battles so that’s what they did. Robert E. Lee was a confederate general who wanted to supply army in northern soil and also threatened Washington D.C and he is the one who let the confederate army. The confederacy also wanted this battle to be the end of the civil war but failed.

The outcome of the battle of Gettysburg was that Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address which is now known as one of the best delivered speeches ever. In the speech Lincoln said,  “That from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom.” (Lincoln) Which is saying that there is a new freedom being created and that one of the main messages trying to be said in the speech is that all men are created equal as said in the declaration of independence whether confederacy or union.Another main message Abraham was trying to say is that the things the soldiers fought for and their ideas would not blemish but in-fact there would be more devotion  and those ideas and that what they fought for would not be forgotten. Besides the devotion and how all men are created equal since the confederacy did not win they were not able to push slavery more into the north, which stopped more people becoming enslaved.

In conclusion the battle of antietam was important but the battle of Gettysburg was the most significant battle of the civil war. It changed some part of slavery and stopped the confederacy from becoming independent and threatining Washington D.C.
