The Big Issue of Climate Change Essay Example

Climate change is one of the world’s most impacting problems. A question that many people have is, what causes climate change? Climate change has been around for about 800,000 years. By the time the year 2000 came along, climate change had gotten a lot worse than when it started. It is important to know what is causing climate change because we need to know how to stop it if we still want to call Earth our home. Humans are influencing climate change by creating greenhouse gases which are produced by burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests, might lead to the end of the world.

Humans are one of the main reasons why climate change is a big issue. We humans do many things that produce greenhouse gases. Examples are burning fossil fuels like coal, livestock farming, and using fertilizers containing nitrogen. By doing these things, greenhouse gases are created. Another example is by cutting down forests, also known as deforestation.  In the article, “European Commission”, it states, “A source of climate change is the many greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases contain carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, fluorinated gases and many more’ … ‘Because of these gases, the earth is getting warmer’ … ‘Trees help to regulate the climate by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. When they are cut down, that beneficial effect is lost and the carbon stored in the trees is released into the atmosphere, adding to the greenhouse effect,” Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have been making more greenhouse gases by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, gas, which releases carbon dioxide into the air. Cutting down millions of trees also causes climate change too. Trees take carbon dioxide and make oxygen which we need to survive.

A big question that many people have is “How bad are the effects of climate change going to be on Earth?”. Researchers say that if climate change continues by the end of the century, it will be way too hot outside. We would be forced to stay home 24/7. “According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2021, ‘the failure to mitigate and adapt to climate change is “the most impactful” risk facing communities worldwide—ahead of even weapons of mass destruction and water crises. Blame its cascading effects: As climate change transforms global ecosystems, it affects everything from the places we live to the water we drink to the air we breathe’,” said the “Global Climate Change, what you need to know” article. If this does continue, experts say, droughts will grip Central America, the Mediterranean, and South Africa. Experts also say that Texas all the way to Bangladesh will be overtaken by rising seas. It would be like the end of the world creeping up on the population.

A main reason of climate change are humans because we burn fossil fuels like coal, and we cut down trees which creates greenhouse gases and slowly destroys Earth. Though, people now are trying to go all electric, we still use fossil fuels in our daily lives. By building more homes, we need to cut more trees for room and material too. But if this keeps happening, by the end of the century, it would be impossible to live on Earth thanks to all the crazy weather. Even though things seem not so good now, there is still time to solve this climate change situation.
