The Care Bears Essay Example

“CHARGE!!” echoed from the living room television every Saturday morning for as long as I can remember. That was the signal that viewers nationwide were about to be transported into the world of care-a-lot with our favourite colourful friends. I remember specifically wrapping my tiny fingers around the nearest pillow and curling up with my fuzzy Winnie the pooh stuffed piglet and watching one of my favourite shows. This has forever been one of my favourite childhood memories. 

Created in the early to mid-1980s by Muriel Fahiron The Care Bears was initially targeted towards younger audiences. However, quickly picked up popularity among the older generations as well. Parents loved the idea of a show that wasn’t too annoying and could teach their children the importance of different themes. The Care Bears explored themes such as the power of friendship, what it means to be a friend, as well as showcase topics such as diversity on the bears’ different coloured fur and branches such as the Care Bear Cousins. It is also shown that it is ok to show emotion, as depicted in the episode “Forest of feelings” where the Care Bears find out what happens when a child stops caring. 

The Care Bears original series was so wildly popular that there were twelve movies created and produced between 1983 and 2010 ranging in length from 30 to 83 minutes. There have also been multiple reboots of the beloved children series, one of the most well-known being “Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-lot” which aired new episodes from 2010 to 2012. The most recent reboot of the show ran just last year and was entitled “Care Bears: Unlock the magic”. 

Each bear has a different symbol representing their dominant personality trait, similar to how no two people are exactly the same and we all have something that makes us unique, each bear has their symbol which makes them unique. This symbol is similar to a tattoo an adult may choose to get representing something important to them. That tattoo has a meaning to the person and is an important part of who they are. Similarly, the Care Bears have their symbols that represent who they are. Although this symbol isn’t the defining factor of their existence, it is a large part of what’s important to them and what they stand for. 

Representing each of their symbols I present to you the first Care Bears ever to be created the original eleven. These eleven bears included: Bedtime Bear, Wish Bear, Cheer Bear, Birthday Bear, Tenderheart Bear, Good Luck Bear, Grumpy Bear, Love-A-Lot Bear (my personal favourite ad treasured teddy bear), Friend Bear, Funshine Bear and Share Bear. These were the first eleven bears to grace our television screens and others soon followed as the series developed over time into all that it is today.
