The Diary of Anne Frank Literary Analysis Essay

In the story of Anne frank there are 2 things: internal conflict and external conflict. An internal conflict is when Anne starts having nightmares about them being discovered and starts crying and yelling then feeling bad because she keeps waking everyone up. An external conflict is when Mr van daan tries to sell Mrs Vandans very expensive sweater and it triggers some commotion between the 2.A brief summary of what happened was The Franks and the Van Daans both go into hiding because they are  jews or they will be killed they face many challenges then they start getting to clumsy and get discovered and the only jewish survivor was Mr. Frank.

When anne starts having her nightmares then when she starts fearing the worse she starts thinking about everyone that she could have hurt internally or externally when she starts having her nightmares the first night it was around midnight and everyone is sleeping some minutes go by and Anne starts kicking,screaming,crying because she had a bad nightmare first it's Mr.Dussel telling her to shut up or else they will be discovered then her mom and the others walk in they all try to calm her down but she doesn't until her father walks in immediately she stop crying and hugs pim(Mr frank) he tells her that it will be ok but then she tells her dad about everything she feels like her dad was the only person was the only person she loves and goes on about everything she feels about living in the annex everyday being forced to stay inside which can't be easy on her considering her age.Everyday anne is fearing for her life every night  because of those distinctive nightmares and just wants it to stop.

The external conflict is when Mr.Van Daan tries to sell Mrs. Van daans jacket the her father gives to her to get cigarettes on page 457 he says “could you sells it could fetch us a good price and could you get me some cigarettes I don't care what kind they are “ this shows he didn't care about someone being warm he just really wanted to smoke and him attempting to sell his wifes jacket her now deceased father gave to her this is a external conflict because it's causing a problem in the house because he's trying to sell something that doesn't belong to him so there's a lot of tension in the room and Mrs. Vandaan is just trying to convince him not sell her favorite jacket and he doesn't even care that it might her he’d rather smoke than make sure his wife is happy.

In conclusion the conflicts are the same because they both cause major problems within the house and with the group they are both major conflicts because they would have ran a lot smoother if they didn't have these problems.
