The Effects of Fracking on the Environment Essay Example

Hydraulic fracturing (fracking), is a drilling method used to extract petroleum (oil) or natural gas from deep in the Earth. To do this a pipe is dug and a combination of water, chemicals, and sand are pumped under very high pressure through the well into the petroleum-bearing rock formations. In this paper I’ll be talking about fracking in Texas, the effects it has on the environment, and my judgement on whether fracking is a positive or a negative.

The Eagle Ford Shale region. It’s the main region for natural gas extraction in Texas through horizontal and hydraulic fracturing. The Eagle Shale is a hydrocarbon-producing geological formation extending over 26 counties. It stretches from the Mexican border between Laredo and Eagle Pass up through counties east of Temple and Waco.

Does fracking affect the environment? Yes, fracking does affect it. The impact it has is terrible because it causes air pollution and water contamination which are the greatest concerns with fracking sites. While the need for wastewater disposal and shaking water supplies are also pressing issues directly related to the procedure.

How do I feel about it you may ask, I disagree with the process. It has had terrible effects on the environment, too many for my liking. Also, the risk of possible poisoning of the water supply and the intoxication of thousands of people is definitely a negative for me.

All in all, fracking is a common but terrible way to extract oil and natural gas. The environmental domain in which these sites are located are greatly impacted by pollution. As has been stated I’m opposed to the fracking technique, but what can I do? The selfish greedy people would never listen to me. In their eyes I’m just a stupid little girl.
