To begin with, Chapter 4 starts with a car ride to Manhattan. This moment is significant because it reveals the background of Gatsby. Nick is skeptical about his background. 

Most part of chapter 4, Gatsby and Nick are in a speakeasy where patrons go into a hidden area of a store to drink and party. During the car ride to the speakeasy Gatsby reveals his background.   Additionally He tells Nick to confirm and vouch for his good character with Meyer Wolfsheim if he doesn’t believe him. Fitzgerald describes the city, “Over the great bridge… the beauty in the world”(74). This illustrates  the magnificence and vibrance of the city from the bridge for first timers to the city. Fitzgerald describes the city as full of wealthy individuals. By sugar lumps Fitzgerald meant that the wealthy individuals build skyscrapers that rise up often. In the speakeasy Gatsby introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfsheim, his good friend. When Wolfsheim and Nick were talking Wolfshiem thought that Nick was Gambler. “ ‘I understand you’re looking for a business connection.’ The juxtaposition of these two remarks was startling. Gatsby answered for me: ‘Oh, no,’ he exclaimed, ‘this isn’t the man!’ ‘No?’ Mr. Wolfshiem seemed disappointed. ‘This is just a friend. I told you we’d talk about that some other time.’ ‘I beg your pardon,’ said Mr. Wolfshiem, ‘I had the wrong man’ ”(76). Wolfsheim thought that Nick was a fellow Bootlegger. This can be connected to the start of Chapter 4 in the novel where a few women came to the party the night before.  In page 79, Gatsby tells Nick inside the speakeasy that Wolfshiem is a gambler and that he fixed the 1919 World Series.  Wolfshiem helps Gatsby with Bootlegging while also bootlegging hence they are friends.  

On the contrary, Lurhmann applied vivid colors for the city. He also applied for the transition between the lush green area to the valley of the ashes while at a Bird’s Eye View. While Gatsby and Nick were riding in the car while they talked, The camera rose to a bird’s eye view at the border between the green area of the city to the Valley of the Ashes. Later inside the city there are a lot of fast-moving actions where things are going past the car as they are talking. The camera switches views often from different angles. When Gatsby and Nick are riding under the bridge the camera gradually lowers from the train passing by above. After entering the Queensboro Bridge the camera enters a wide-angle view encompassing the whole of Manhattan Island. Different colors of the city can be seen at this angle. In the bridge Camera pans to a red airplane  doing tricks as the camera pans again to Nick who sees it looking up which is  a high angle. It also gives Nick’s perspective in a worm’s eye view meaning you are looking up at a subject. The camera transitions gradually while panning downwards to the next scene. Then Gatsby and Nick enter the speakeasy where there are people dancing, drinking, and singing. Moreover there is fast-moving action in this scene and the camera pans fastly. The music slightly fades as they enter the speakeasy through the door indicating some secret business intentions. There are also wide angle shots of the whole room which cut between Meyer and Nick and the people who are dancing on the stage. When all three people were talking the camera went close-up to capture emotions.
