Who was the guiltiest person in Salem? Mary Warren Mary Warren, the servant of John and Elizabeth Proctor, was the guiltiest person in The Crucible. She went out into the woods and danced with a group of girls. She started to try covering it up and seem innocent. She soon started working for the court working on the witchcraft cases. She lied all throughout the trials. In the end she turns on the girls and John Proctor. She sent her soul on the girls, soon later turning on John and saying she was with God.

Mary Warren went out and danced with a group of girls. Two of the youngest girls fell sick because of their witchery. Dancing is a sin in the eyes of the Puritans. But she still decided to dance. People started questioning Mary Warren and the girls of witchery. Mary then started calling out names. All of the girls did but Mary knew it was wrong. She wanted to see the people get taken away. She wanted to get her way no matter what. She acted as a witch would and cast out people who were innocent (Page 646).

When the trials started, she worked on the court with the other girls. She acted as though she was getting spirits sent out to them. Even fainted, screamed, turned cold, and went hysterical. Putting on a show for everyone around her. Helped send people to death and watched them die. She cheered as people were hung. She wanted those people to die, she wanted the glory of her sins. In the court she made a voodoo poppet that had Abigail attached to it (Page 606). She stuck a needle in it to stab Abigail.

Soon John Proctor grew tired of her acting. He wanted Mary to confess but she didn’t want to. When she finally gave in she went to the court. She told them she was lying but they didn’t believe her. She sent her spirit on the girls once the girls turned on her (Page 652). She wanted them to feel the pain that she was feeling. She wasn’t going to give up her spot on the court either. She wanted to be the cause of people’s death. She than turned on John to make him be a suspect. He was sent to jail and in the end hung.

Mary Warren is the guiltiest person in The Crucible. She was a sinner from the start and she knew she was in the wrong. She called out innocent people to get herself out of trouble. Worked for the court, in that time she lied to people, got people killed, and sent her own spirit out on people. She wanted things to go her way or no way. She turned against the girls sending her spirit on them. She turned against John and let him die. This all shows that she was really guilty. She caused the death of many people, lied getting others in trouble, and sending her spirit on people.
