Knowing how to read and write is essential in our world. We have to know how to read, so we can do things as simple as order food off a fast-food menu. Fifty percent of the adults cannot read an average book written at an eighth-grade reading level. Teachers need to teach reading harder, so we can lower the percentage. Knowing how to read and write is essential because it is needed to take care of our kids in school, it is needed to complete basic tasks, and it is needed to get a decent job. We all need the basic necessity of reading and writing.

Most of our children will know how to read. Sixty-eight percent of teachers say that the philosophy of reading is “balanced literacy.”While twenty-two percent of teachers say that the philosophy of reading is “explicit, systematic phonetics with compression as a separate focus.” With this data, we know that reading is being pounded into this generation and the next generation. The Millennials did not get a lot of reading. Generation Z is getting more than the last generation. Generation Alpha will get the most out of all three generations. Who knows, Mabey the reading and writing teaching methods will be obsolete. I think that reading and writing should be integrated into the curriculum for all grades.

For Example, my parents said that they felt like the people that grow up in generation Z will experience fewer problems with not knowing how to read. In the same way, the people in generation Alpha will experience even fewer problems than generation Z. This cycle will continue until teachers slack off on reading and the cycle will start over again.

Every day, we all have to complete a simple task. Fifty percent of Americans read so poorly that they cannot perform simple tasks such as reading a cereal box or reading a newspaper. Reading is an essential part of our daily lives. We have to know how to read. We cannot even order fast food off a menu if we cannot read. We need to know how to read and write.

For example, if I went to KFC and I had never been there and did not know what they had on their menu. I would starve. We need to know how to read and write.

Knowing how to read and write is essential because it helps us to get a decent job. Sixty- five percent of jobs in America require knowing how to read and write.  There is only thirty-five percent of jobs that illiterate people can occupy. Those jobs are often low-paying and provide not enough money for their family. If we learn how to read and write, we will have a better chance to get into that sixty-five percent of the higher-paying job tier.

For example, if I went to get a job at a major business and I could not read. Most likely I will get denied. This will end up making me get multiple low-paying jobs so I can provide for my family. For some of us, having a job and a family is imminent. All people should know how to read and write. You may start off as a novice, but you will get better and get better pay.

Reading and writing are very important skills to learn. Knowing how to read and write is essential because it is needed to take care of our kids in school, it is needed to complete basic tasks, and it is needed to get a decent job. Reading and writing should be taught in all grade levels and it should be pounded into students’  minds, so when they grow up, they will know how to read.
