What is student activism and why it is important? Student Activism is work that is done by students to help cause political, environmental, economic, or social change. The author of the texts in “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” and “Why We’re Running for Office” both give us an idea of what student activism is and how it could be used. The author’s of the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” and the article “Why We’re Running for Office” both have different purposes for writing about youth activism and different ways of conveying their purpose, but even though the authors’ may vary both texts use the text features illustrations, and text features to help give us an idea of student activism and the way the author’s have chosen to demonstrate their purpose.

Firstly, the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” wrote the infographic to inform students of what they can do in order to become a student activist. Firstly, in the text it says, “Step 1 Pinpoint your passion: the most passionate student activists have identified a cause that makes them get up each morning believing they can make things better.” on page 1. This evidence supports the author’s purpose because it helps the readers to understand a rule they will have to take in order to become a student activist. Furthermore, the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” also puts some of the benefits of Student Activism. In the text it says, “In addition to classroom learning, student activists develop skills while campaigning for their cause, including public speaking, persuasion, critical thinking, and negotiation.” This helps relate to the author’s purpose because it shows what student activism can help improve. In conclusion, the purpose of the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” is to share the possible ways you can take to become a student activist.

Secondly, the author of the article “Why We’re Running for Office” wrote this article to inspire teens that they have all the resources and knowledge they need to be a governor. In the article “Why We’re Running for Office” it says, “Across the country, young people like Bushra are getting involved in politics, they participate in protests, donate to causes, or run for office.” on page 1. This evidence shows how some students have been getting involved into politics and this could also inspire more people to start looking into politics. The article “Why We’re Running for Office” also uses bold words to help bring the author’s purpose to life.  One of the phrases that the author puts in bold words is ““The youngest generation is pretty sure that we can do it better than the folks that have been doing it for a long time.” on page 2. This evidence relates to the author’s purpose because it shows some of the people of the younger generations believe that they are capable of doing things better than the older generation and this can inspire younger people to get more involved in politics. All in all, the article “Why We’re Running for Office” was written to explain that people of the younger generations have the ability and skills to run for governor and be even as successful as the people of the older generations.

Lastly, the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” and the article “Why We’re Running for Office both have some similarities and differences. The infographic and article both use pictures to demonstrate the author’s purpose. You can find the pictures on the infographic on pages 1,2, and 4. The pictures in the article are located on pages 1, 2, and 3. The pictures in the infographic and the article help to relate to the author’s purpose because it shows a visual of people who have gotten involved into politics or a visual of the steps to take to become a student activist. The main difference between the infographic and the article is that one uses an infographic to show the author’s purpose and the other one uses large reading to show the author’s purpose. This helps support the author's purposes because the way an infographic or article is set up can demonstrate what the author wants you to get out of the reading. For example, the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” was written to show the steps to take to become a student activist. The article “Why We’re Running for Office” was written to show that people of the younger generation are capable of becoming even more successful than the older generations. Presently, both texts have plenty of similarities and differences used to convey the purpose.

Overall, the infographic “Student Activism Getting Your Voice Heard” and the article “Why We’re Running For Office” demonstrates the purpose of the texts through illustrations, and paragraphs. The text also has a lot of differences. Both texts teach us the benefits and ways we can use to become a Student Activist today.
