The Importance of Teamwork in the Workplace Essay Sample

Being a cabinet member has taught me many things. But the biggest takeaway that I’ve learned is that teamwork can work wonders. Throughout this journey, I’ve had to communicate, assist, and create relationships with many people in order to fulfill my duties. Regardless of the scenario, I have always loved working alongside my fellow cabinet members, and the ability to do so has enabled me to face many of the challenges that I went through to get me to where I am today. This lesson was embarked when I received my first in person duty. I was tasked to organize the storage unit.

During the beginning of this year's term I was tasked with a momentous challenge that I would be faced with for quite some time. It wouldn’t take just 1 day, but rather a string of days separated by weeks to get every intricate detail on record. Managing props is what I do, but my challenge wasn’t accomplished by my efforts alone. Thankfully, I was accompanied by the executives of this year and the past, creating a sort of harmony between the generations. The task resulted in Christine, Patrick, and Caroline giving the props and all of its responsibilities to me. A responsibility that I would keep near and dear to my heart.

The task of managing props was quite hefty and it was a laborious process at first. Any sign of progress seemed to end up jumbled around because right after we had accounted for certain props, they would be shuffled back into the mess of the 10x10 storage unit. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, but it was almost like a waste of time in the beginning since there wasn’t any clear method or overt use of cooperation. That’s when I knew I had to change something in order to overcome this obstacle.

The first step to face this challenge was to change my attitude and look at the problem from a different aspect. There had to be some way to be more efficient in the way that we handled things because it just wasn’t working out. So when I came home after trying to fix the layout of the unit, I came up with an idea. I would create a labeling system that would organize every costume to be in its respective suite and probable dance. This way, we could better maximize our efficiency in both time and in spatial capacity.

Once I revealed this method, everything ran remarkably faster. I think it wasn’t just the system that made it smoother, the ability to fall and come back up is what empowered our mindset to improve. This minor setback enhanced our bond and helped us complete the task. Because we were more cooperative and had an understanding of each other, the operation moved like butter.

The future of my prop manager career was strictly influenced by this happening, and I’m glad of it. This moment of restoration and order has and will help the club prosper in a profusion of ways. Being in club Kaibigan has taught me how collaborating with like minded individuals delivers prosperity to everyone.
