Food remains an essential aspect of our life since it allows us to grow and become stronger. Without food, one merely could not survive. High-quality food is relatively more expensive than industrial food, thus those willing to invest money on their health must select between the organic and industrial options. The majority of Americans can purchase food directly from a farmer, a small local business, or a supermarket chain. Some individuals, however, do not have that luxury and must rely on corner stores with a limited selection of healthy foods. One's eating choices have an impact on his or her health and the environment's long-term sustainability. When it comes to food, one should think about the quality and whether if it's beneficial to the body or not. This should not be a choice; high-quality, nutritious meals should be available to individuals of all economic classes, not just the middle class as they can help to reduce long-term health problems and improve the environment.

Eating nutritious foods reduces the risk of developing long term illnesses and should be widely available to the least fortunate. According to the novel, The Omnivore's Dilemma, “a poor diet can contribute to deteriorating health, affecting individuals with lower incomes the most. To illustrate, “Surprisingly, the health problems of eating too much hit poor people hardest. That’s because if you count the calories, foods loaded with sugar and fat are the cheapest foods in the market” (Pollan 83). People with lower income must spend their money prudently, unlike the average working class. Most people can afford to splurge on healthier food, whereas others must choose less healthy alternatives that will save them money. In the end, this is not beneficial for their health. They are more likely to develop diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure in the long run. Instead, high-quality meals should be available to the less privileged, even including children. In recent years, children have become increasingly obese, which will have the possibility to shorten their lives. Stated by Pollan, “Three of every five Americans are overweight; one of every five is obese. Among kids, it’s almost as bad. Seventeen percent of kids age six through nineteen are obese. This is a giant public health problem, costing the health care system an estimated $90 billion a year” (Pollen 76). Not only are working adults trying to balance their budgets and their health, but kids, particularly teenagers, are suffering from obesity. Obesity has become more common in children, costing health-care systems $90 billion every year. With increasing incidences of obesity increasing, it is more likely that children will grow up unhealthy and may even live a shorter life than their parents. Parents frequently buy snacks for their children as food since they are less expensive; however, if healthier opinions were made more generally available to people with lower incomes in the beginning, parents could have purchased these whole foods and begun a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a consistent lifestyle is essential for maintaining a balanced diet. Access to healthy food is essential. In an article, Michael Precker states, “Food insecurity affects millions of people in the U.S. whose suffering may not appear so grim on the outside, but whose mental and physical health are still threatened by hunger and poor nutrition. To live a healthy life, one must be consistent with their eating habits. However, due to the expensive cost of high-quality, whole foods, some people do not have access to them. Instead of allowing large corporations to control the health of the United States, allowing healthy options to people of all income levels might greatly benefit our health and a variety of other factors.

In addition, organic foods are grown without the use of chemicals which may reduce pollution. This can help ensure that the environment stays safe and healthy in the future. Keeping the environment clean can benefit people and even wildlife. Stated by Lawrence Robinson in the article Organic foods:What you need to know, “Organic farming practices may reduce pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, increase soil fertility, and use less energy. Farming without synthetic pesticides is also better for nearby birds and animals as well as people who live close to farms.” Pesticides in food cause harm to our ecosystem. Industrial farming practices not only contaminate the environment, but they can also cause wildlife to lose their habits. Organic farming is a better farming is a better approach that should be used. Organic farming can reduce the quantity of resources used to produce our food, and because organic foods are not made with harmful chemicals, they would not affect human health or the health of animals. For instance, sea life animals, since there's no use of chemicals in the growth of organic food that “means no toxic run-off into rivers and oceans” (Pollan 141). In the long term, it is healthier for humans, animals, and farms when fewer harmful chemicals are released into ecosystems because we all rely on a healthy environment. Organic food could easily become more widely available if the organic process was practiced more frequently. When organic practice is used, “the animals do the real work on his farm. “I’m just the orchestra conductor, making sure everybody’s in the right place at the right time” (Pollan 205). Whole foods are a natural process, a gift from nature. It isn't supposed to be rush nor controlled, instead, allowing animals and plants to do their jobs can save the farmer time while still producing fresh, high-quality food at a lower cost. Because it makes farmers' jobs easier, fresh produce prices can be lowered, assisting individuals who are unable to buy fresh food. Organic farming has more potential to benefit consumers by allowing more consumers to purchase whole foods.
