Imagine your entire life you pertain to specific country, ethnicity, culture, and religious customs when all the sudden a national conflict escalates globally in which you don’t know which country you pertain too. This is what is happening to Indian and Chinese citizens.  The India-China border dispute is an ongoing battle that has been happening for decades. In the early 1900’s both China and India were ruled over by the British. At the time, the United Kingdom decided to separate the two nations during the Simla Convention to create a border. This Convention held representatives of China, India, and the United Kingdom. Although two countries signed to legalize the new border between India and China, one of the nations did not confirm their decision. All in all, the India- China border dispute is causing a national, regional, and global impact as both countries are bringing in troops to the border, China is considering creating economic trades with neighboring countries, and world powers are offering military and economic support.

Using imperialistic and military force, the India-China dispute’s national impacts, are causing soldiers to lose their lives as troops are being placed on the border. In 1914, The United Kingdom decided to separate the border between India and China. Both the United Kingdom and India signed to legalize the border; however, the China’s representatives did not officially sign off on the border. After both nations gained independence from the UK, China and India went to war to end their ongoing disagreement on the placement of the border between the two countries. Since then, the two countries have still not agreed on the 2,167-mile-long border. That is when China decided to put matters into their own hands. China and India “both (sides) have stationed tens of thousands of troops, backed by massive military hardware, including tanks and fighter jets in the region” states Document 4. Having placed multiple soldiers on the border, has led to the deaths of multiple troops. Although both nations have had diplomatic conversation about the legal situation of their border, China continues to military power, and is angered because “The Chinese Military(later) said four of its troops has been killed” (Doc 4). Because of China and India’s border dispute both nations have had to come up with creative ideas on how to gain control over the border. The national conflict between China and India has caused them to place troops on the border.

Regionally, the India-China dispute has led China to consider creating economic trades with neighboring countries. As both India and China are fighting for the placement of the border, India is facing another ongoing conflict with Pakistan over Kashmir. Pakistan wanting full control of Kashmiri territory, Pakistan has struggled to territory ruled by India. China has since been involved with the battle over Kashmir as China has seen “perhaps more vitally for Beijing, parts of Kashmir fall into its “Belt and Rode” initiative as massive, cross-continental infrastructure development project aimed at explain China’s commercial connections globally” (Doc 10). India is struggling to not only keep their border but are also struggling to keep their territory. Pakistan and India held Kashmir, has been a source of interests for the Chinese as they have tried to gain land to expand their economic project. China has been in interests with the region as there have been “specific(lly) infrastructure projects linking China with Pakistan through Kashmiri territories controlled by the Pakistan” (Doc 10).  If Pakistan were to have full control of Kashmiri territory, China would have another source of economic, trading power as China’s economy would increase drastically. The India-China dispute has changed the economic power of regional countries, as they consider economic trades with China.

Internationally, countries around the world are offering military and economic help, because of the India-China border dispute. In 1962, the Sino-war between India and the Chinese over the border has since formed into a global conflict as the United States recognized the McMahon line as the Indian Chinese border.  As stated in Document 7 “Galbraith [the U.S. ambassador to India] was authorized to state that United States recognized that the McMahon Line as the traditional and generally accepted international border and fully supported India’s position in that regard”. The United States, because of past conflicts with the Chinese communist led government system, fears of the communist regime having the best economic system in the world. After recognizing the McMahon Line as the Border, President Kenney prepared to “help the Indians with arms and equipment on a military assistance” (Doc 7). If India were to create an alliance with the U.S., they would have military and economic support of other countries, since the U.S is a member of NATO, and the United Nations. If China were to succeed in changing the border, neighboring countries would not know which cultural, ethnicity, and most important country they pertain too, because they would also be changing the border of countries all around India, as shown in Doc 1. Because of the Indian- China border dispute, international military and economic support was given as the United States recognized the Indian border.
