More and more people get their brains entombed by others in dark times. It can be anywhere, in person or online. You may think everyone with a nice coat will stay kind, but that's not as it seems. “The LandLady” by Roald Dahl, is an engrossing book about how someone could get beaten up without their own knowledge of it happening. Billy Weaver gets captured by the Land Lady, but instead, on the inside, he stumbles upon her motel due to refuge but doesn't see what was to come. The text creates suspense for the reader due to the fact that he ignores most of the significant clues and the lady is tenderhearted and queer. When he came in, she immediately lingered and stayed kind, wanting him to take off his guard, and the motel had disturbing discoveries.

Billy Weaver gets a warm welcome into a motel, but what he doesn't realize is the attitude of the people inside. He gets greeted by an unusual kind woman, and she tells him that he's a perfect gentleman, this is suspenseful due to the fact that he just entered and she was already talking about how astonishing he was. Here is an example of her abnormal kindness. “Everything is always ready day and night in this house just on the off-chance that an acceptable young gentleman will come along. And it is such a pleasure, my dear, such a very great pleasure when now and again I open the door and I see someone standing there who is just exactly right.” The quote basically informs us that she's always ready to get something done and that she magically stumbled upon Billy. Additionally, she mentions that it was such a pleasure that she met another right-looking man. Furthermore, the quote interprets that the Land Lady has been trying to find a perfect gentleman for a long time. She also said, “when now and again I open the door and I see someone standing there who is just exactly right”, meaning that there have been others who also came here for a place to stay for the night. The bizarre attitude of the Land Lady is also quite odd since it was late at night and she was describing how he was suddenly a “right” man. This is suspenseful and Billy still managed to ignore this disturbing clue. In summation, the Land Lady is a rather odd individual that seems to have an unknown and unusual taste and attitude in others.

The LandLady acts abnormal like some people, but on a totally different level. She keeps her unusual and disturbing clues in plain sight. It's just a matter of time before Bill Weaver finally understands what he’s going through. These quotes express how the Land Lady sheds her scales in plain sight. “I stuff all my little pets myself when they pass away.” and “I’m so glad you appeared,” she said, looking earnestly into his face. “I was beginning to get worried.” The 1st quote basically is the Land Lady telling Billy that she stuffed her pets when they died. Furthermore, the 1st quote appears to be incredibly disturbing because, nobody in their right mind stuffs their pets when they die. In addition, with a mindset like that she must have treated her past visitors the same in a way. In the second quote the Land Lady gets worried when she loses him. Additionally, the 2nd quote is suspenseful because she got worried when she couldn’t find him. That shows her attitude of kindness and attention towards Billy or might I say the “right gentleman”. In both of the quotes as well, the Land Lady seems to be fairly nice, attentive, and easy-going. That's what made Billy fall into her trap and the trap made him ignore all her suspicious tracks. Ultimately, the Land Lady is the kind of person who loses her innocence throughout the story to show her inner-self. She makes a bait that's hard to deny leaving in this case, Billy's consciousness behind.

In conclusion, the text generates suspense for the reader since he ignores most of the crucial clues and the lady is tenderhearted and idiosyncratic. When he came in, she immediately lingered and stayed kind, wanting him to take off his guard, and the motel had disturbing discoveries. The Landlady has a friendly manner with a warm coat. In addition, the lady has a quirky character and she makes others uncomfortable in a bizarre way. Furthermore, no matter where one is, there will always be someone or something that's hiding just like the doll, Annabelle. Ultimately, one should always follow their instincts; always be a vigilant being.
