The mid 1900s was a time of significant political development. Many new nations had developed along with the idea of new political reform, especially after the collapse of the many grand empires at the time. Perhaps the most noteworthy political change during this time period was the shift into new nations that offer extensive freedom to their citizens.

During the 1800s leading on to the early 1900s, many nations were colonized and ruled by massive empires. Under this rule, freedom wasn’t exactly the most popular idea at the time. There were strict regulations dictating things like religion, capitalism, and most basic human freedoms. This, however, took a unique turn nearing the mid 1900s. Many nations have risen up and revolted against the colonizers. One incidence of this, for example, was Ghana’s revolt and fight for liberation (1957). It was a revolution against a corrupt government as well as free rights for the people. Although this incident may not quite have been the inciting incident that sparked the reform of other nations, which could be seen dating back to the 1700s, it is a prime example of the political changes taking place during the mid 1900s. After the fall of colonization, a new political era had taken over. Freedom and sovereignty became the new concept many people had sought after. From 1945 to 1975, more and more nations had adopted new declarations and many political shifts. Some examples of this include the Vietnamese independence from France (1945), Congo independence (1960), Ghana independence (1957). Everyone wanted a new government that was not corrupted, and were willing to fight to keep it free.

Along with the nations that wanted a free state, many nations had also believed in imperialism and wanted to keep the idea alive. They believed that imperialism was the reason nations were thriving and that these rights people have fought so hard for may be rather unnecessary. It is undeniable that to this day, some nations still follow these imperialistic outlines, but with each passing decade, a new nation acquires freedom.

The 1900s sparked a new era of political reform. More specifically, a reform for liberation and human rights. Although these efforts were ghastly, they proved effective in granting new nations well-sought freedom.
