Have you ever experienced racism? If so, how was it? Many people in America experience it on a daily basis. It could not only be at school, but in other places as well. Most colored people are considered “aliens” to our country just by the color of their skin. Racism started long ago, when slavery begun or even before that. However, it started to develop more during slavery. When people with light skin “ruled the world.” They made life impossible for people with colored skin, and even separated families just so people with light skin could have homes and things to eat. While racism remains a problem in America, it can be reduced or potentially eliminated through effective implementation of diversity training programs in schools and other public places. For example, make students socialize more with people outside of their race, teachers discussing different religions and races, and the government treating everyone the same no matter what the color of their skin is.

One way people could prevent racism is by making students socialize with people outside of their race. For example, when doing team work, put a little bit of everything in the group, like Hispanic, White, and African American together. Yes, it’ll take a while for them to get comfortable with each other, but they’ll learn that you can have good relationships with others outside of their comfort zone. Another good way to prevent racism is by not making a certain race feel left out. Like, when a teacher picks on African Americans for talking and not white students. It’ll make the colored students feel like they’re being “attacked” for something that other students are doing as well. According to , https://www.pewresearch.org , “ Many mixed-race adults straddle two (or more) worlds, and their relationships reflect that. Whether it is in the friendships they form, the neighborhood where they live, or contact with family members, interactions with the racial groups that make up their background are often uneven, as is the level of acceptance multiracial adults feel they get from each group.” This article just stated that colored people have a harder time getting to socialize with others because they might “bring danger.” This is one of the many ways people could prevent racism.

Another thought is that teachers discuss more about other races and religions. History teachers are usually the ones that have a harder time explaining these things to students, just because some may find it offensive or disrespectful because of their religion or race. However, it’s all about how the educator explains it to the class. Educators have to accept the fact that colored students or even white students could find it inappropriate because their past family members could have gone through racism or even the student itself. According to https://time.com/ , “See teaching about religion as more than just teaching the facts. Yes, teach, don’t preach. But educators can easily incorporate lessons about stereotypes. Use facts and common sense to explain why it’s wrong to say all Muslims are terrorists, for example.” Teachers would have to be careful with the way they express their words, because they would easily hurt a student's feelings. This is another way to help prevent racism.

One last way to prevent racism is by the government treating everyone with equal rights no matter their skin color. Most authorities assume that colored people would be dangerous or that they could be armed just because other colored people in the past have done those things. According to https://www.nytimes.com/ , “Mr. Floyd died after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by an officer’s knee in an episode that was captured on video, touching off nationwide protests.” If George Floyd was white then maybe the cops wouldn’t have been so aggressive with Mr. Floyd. Some judges even sentence a colored person for a longer period than if a white person, even if they committed the same crime. This should open the government's eyes and should start treating everyone the same when it comes to sentencing people in jail.

While racism remains a problem in America, it can be reduced or potentially eliminated through effective implementation of diversity training programs in schools and other public places. For example, make students socialize more with people outside of their race, teachers discussing different religions and races, and the government treating everyone the same no matter what the color of their skin is. Basically, what I am trying to prove is that America would be better off if everyone just got along and they would get the same treatment as others. In conclusion, America still faces these horrible incidents on a daily basis.
