The late Ruth Bader Ginsburg once stated “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time”.  The quote makes you think about what changes you’ve seen, beneficial or inadequate, and the changes that you want to make. The need of change is never going to disappear. There will always be something that needs to be reformed or simply done away with.

Over the past year of 2020 leading into 2021 many people have expressed their desire to change our social justice system. The need and want for change has brought our nation closer together, people are setting aside their differences to reach a common goal. As a nation we are starting to take step to become the nation that we have always invasions ourself being. Taking the change in strides our nation will get changed even if it is one step at a time.

In Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s quote she says the phase “enduring change” that is the part of the quote that stand out the most. The definition of enduring is “continuing or long lasting”, mean that the change with last for a long time. If you break down the word you get the root endure which is defined as “suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently”. Change is something that can be positive or negative. One must be careful on what they change or we will endure, suffer patiently, the consequences from that change. The other way of thinking about it is that we will suffer until there is change. That people will go though something painful and difficult till someone can raise up and change it for the better.

The quote that we were given for this promoted was one that made you think; what is change? Why is it important? What do I see that need change? How can I make change? Many of the people that we look up to today are place on a pedestal because of the change that was made. From a young age we have always seen what we would like to change, the thing that we think we could make better. Not many of us try or push for the change because we forget that to get there it take “one step at a time”.

Everyone has a chance to create and make change to make the world a better place. To make a enduring change in my lifetime I am planing in college to come in with an open mind, stand up for what I believe in, and set an example in my chosen field of study.

In order to create change one has to be willing to listen to others. Going into college with an open mind will allow me to see issues form other people’s viewpoints. It could also open my eyes to thing that I would have never thought need change. College is a mixing pot of all people from all walks of life. Everyone will have their own opinion on a topic, the best thing to do is to listen and really take in what they are saying. A key part of making change is knowing and understand what you are trying to change and why you are changing it.

For change to be made there must be people who are willing to stand up for what they want and to never back down. Standing up for what you believe and what you think is right is the most important part of crafting change. There will constantly be someone who will tell you that your wrong and that you can’t change it or get to the point you want to be at. Being able to stand up for yourself and have faith that you can do anything, will allow you to do anything that you could possibly put your mind to.

When I graduate and start working the by chose field of study, I want to be someone that people can look up to. I would like to be a person that young kids can watch and be proud at what I do. Knowing that one day I could some important enough to have a little girl look up to me and see that women can be in the business world. The change that I would want to bring is that no matter where your from or what you’re struggling with, that doesn’t mean that you could not achieve the great things that you want to do. Everyone can make real, enduring changer one step at a time.
