Have you ever had to play a game against a cheater? As an attempt to bypass hard work, some athletes use performance enhancers, but performance enhancers are not only cheating, but they are bad for your body.

It’s easy to think of professional athletes as privileged millionaires who only work one or two days a week, but even NFL superstars have a weekly schedule they must follow. Professional athletes are “professionals” for a reason. The best of the best put in copious amounts of work every day, balancing practice, the media, and their playbook like a full-time job. Work for most NFL players begins around six am-eight am, which involves weight lifting, team meetings, tape review, and conditioning. Professional athletes work hard every day to continue to improve and become stronger. Using performance enhancers is an unfair advantage against those hard-working athletes.

In addition to professional athletes using performance enhancers, there are lots of downfalls to using steroids. It may seem easier to use performance enhancers, but it isn’t worth the risk. Using steroids has been linked to strokes, liver damage, stunted growth, and multiple cancers. Not only does it affect your body, but using steroids has also been linked to mood swings. After using steroids people become someone else, ruining social relationships and even possibly even their careers. Steroids are banned from all major and even some less popular leagues. The NFL issues one to six drug tests per year, and being caught using anabolic steroids for the first time calls for a six-game suspension. Being caught for a second time leads to a seventeen-game suspension. It only gets worse.

Despite the fact that steroids are harmful, some would dispute that steroids increase strength by six%-twenty% and give almost instant aid in boosting performance. On the other hand, steroids have short-lived effects, yet lead to lifelong health problems, opposed to strength and skill earned by practice and repetition, which can only benefit you.

In conclusion, using steroids is morally wrong. Facts such as ……... firmly back up that using steroids causes detrimental health problems that have lifelong effects. Therefore, athletes should never use steroids.
