Theme of Foreshadowing in Lord of the Flies Essay Example

We're all are afraid, but fear is what keeps us alive. That night you felt like someone was watching you from afar on your way home from work, nevertheless when you saw a spider hanging from the ceiling.

In Lord of the Flies, there are a lot of foreshadowing that the author uses, which, chapter 2 states a quote from the main character Jack said: “we've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything”. Throughout the dawn of holding out on the island, authority and survival played a vast part in the story, fearful of what could happen while living here and wondering when the savior would come for them. Their fears and imagination kept them alive or the ones who did live. For the whole of each character began off as innocent they all were beginning to know each person and their names to try and create a mini tribe. Fear consumes who you are and causes savageness behavior throughout each of the boys. In Chapter 4, Jack was in charge of finding food which was a pig they killed it; blood-thirst in his eyes. After Jack killed the pig, he decided to paint his face like a mask to feel liberated.

As the story progressed, Jack slowly began frequently developing savage-like behavior with the group and attempting to take over the leadership position from Ralph. Fabricating the amount of fear the boys already had. William Golding creates fear in each one of his stories instead, he uses each character as a connection with his personal feelings. He was a soldier in the war of World War ll, so when he created this book and these characters' maybe he wanted to make it feel like how he felt, there was a war going on in the world while the boys marooned on this island all alone with no adult authorities. Many people died within this book a little boy in chapter 2 with mulberry hair who burned in the forest fire: the unnamed pilot killed in the crash of the plane, the unknown parachute man who jumped during the collision and died from hitting a cliff, Simon repeatedly being stabbed to death by the boys with spears, Piggy having a boulder dropped onto his skull. Every person that died in this story hadn't a proper burial instead nobody seemed to care or understand because they were scared.

The Children killed three of their own because the aggression and terror they felt running from this beast and becoming savage brought them into a path of murder. Without the authority figure to guide them and help them learn to take care of themselves, they all had to fathom a way to do so. Fear is what consumed the youngest boys because they considered the island as a game without rules and short of consequence, not believing that anybody would come to save them and Jack was the head of the pack. Ralph, Piggy, Simon, Sam n' Eric, all worked together to keep themselves as well as, each other from turning animalistic like Jack's group; which is why the rules they established in the start were soon to dispersal.

We all are afraid; because we never truly understand the consequences of our actions and the guilt gut feeling we obtain is what makes us fabricate irrational decisions, especially as children. Children instill right from wrong at a young age, but these boys were too young from 6 through 12 to truly understand how to survive and take care of themselves. Boys are aggressive and can take what they call “games” too extreme that's what brings them to fear is because when they do something wrong their first instinct is to try and justify that they hadn't made a mistake. Children don't understand the situation in front of them as well as they thought they did because of the maturity level they are at and throughout the story each boy matured in some way or became more childish. Authority was the lion's share of the book and I believe that William Golding chose to compare how he would've felt like a child being stranded using his knowledge on being somewhere unknown fighting for his life.

To further say, when the boys were stranded the fear inside of them kept building as some took the path of savagery is showing that without authority the civilization that people originally have will slowly fade because of human instincts.
