Everyone shows love differently. It can be a simple gesture or a lifetime of events. With that being said, there are many different types of love. There is love for parents, animals, friends, teachers, and even someone’s significant other. This is why there is no definite answer for the word love. It can change depending on one’s relationship with the other person. Most people would think of love as being affectionate to someone or caring about them. Although this may be true in some cases, I think that love is crazy, complicated, and controlling.

I believe that love is crazy because it can drive people to do weird and unusual things that they would not normally do. For example, in the story A Rose for Emily, Emily loved Homer Barron so much that she was afraid of losing him like her dad. That led Emily to poison him, and keep his body because she never wanted him to leave. It is almost like she is love drunk because if she was thinking straight, that would have never come across her mind. Another example of how crazy love can be is in the short story The Story of an Hour. Mrs. Mallard always loved her husband, but often questioned her marriage. She knew he loved her, and she still loved him despite him being so demanding. That is why when she found out he was not dead, she died because she loved him so much.

Love can be very complicated because sometimes the people in the relationship do not exactly know where they stand. They are confused because they do not know if they actually love each other. For example, in the story A Rose for Emily, Emily definitely loved Homer Barron so much because the town would always say, “they are going to get married.” Unfortunately, Homer did not love Emily as much. He liked the young guys at the country club  better. This made Emily think he was going to leave her for them. Another example is the short story, The Story of an Hour, when Mrs. Mallard was thinking back on her relationship about her husband. She was wondering if she would miss her husband or not. This is why she sat in her room for so long; it was hard for her to decide between her freedom and her husband.

Love can be controlling because even when the other person in the relationship means well, sometimes it can come off wrong. For example, in the story A Rose for Emily, her dad would always scare off any boy that tried to date her. He was trying to keep her safe and protect her feelings. That only made Emily lonely. Another example is in the short story The Story of an Hour  because Mrs. Mallard's husband would never let her leave the house. She wanted to be free, but couldn't because of her husband.

In conclusion, love can be a wonderful thing but not at all times. It can come across as the complete opposite, and that can cause trouble for the people in the relationship. It is very hard to love someone if it seems like they are making life worse.
