Why is it important to accept and include people from all classes? It relates to my thesis because we talk about acceptance.  In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird Haper Lee talks about the acceptance of all types of people that are different in race, physical disability, and social status.

Everyone should be accepted no matter what their race is. “I couldn’t go to church and worship God if I didn’t try to help that man” (Lee 108).  “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view” (Lee 30).  These quotes show that Atticus knows that race and a person's color do not make them less of a person.  We should accept people of all races no matter what they look like.

Secondly, disability should not define a person.  One example from the book is how Tom Robison's left arm was completely crippled by a cotton gin (Lee 189). “Besides that, he wore glasses. He was nearly blind in his left eye, he said left eyes were the tribunal curse of the Finches” (Lee 92). No matter what disability you have it does not define who you are. You should accept those that have disabilities, it does not make them less of a person.

Lastly, people should not be judged on their social status.  For example, it shows that Walther Cunningham came from a low-income family and the teacher offered him a quarter to get lunch and he would not accept the quarter because he knew he would not be able to pay it back (Lee 20). Dolphus Raymond is another character in Kill a Mockingbird that is poor but he is accepted because he owns land with a river that runs through it and he is also able to play a role  (Lee 167). This shows how social status does not affect one's humanity.   You should not judge a person based on their social status there is.

Overall in To Kill a Mockingbird we learned that you can not define a person based on their race, disability, and social status. We can not judge people on how they look and act. We can learn that not everyone comes from a good home.
