To Sir with Love Movie Analysis Example

After watching the movie To Sir with Love, I immediately was interested in a character, this character’s name was Mr. Thackary. Mr Thackary is a very interesting character with abundant change. He is a teacher that just got hired and is joining a school, which is called North Quay secondary school. This school is filled with very many troubled students. He is about inbark on a journey that is filled with many struggles and challenges he has to overcome.

As the movie begins we see Mr. Thackary is traveling to the school on foot, as he is arriving he is met with one of his soon to be students. This student just came out of the restroom and looks filthy. The student is also smoking a cigar. As soon as Mr. Thackary lays eyes on him; he looks at him, but not with disrespect or disgust but respect as a young man. He then says farewell and goes on his way. Inside North Quay secondary school, when he enters he is greeted by the faculty. The majority of the faculty is pleasant and welcoming, although some were not as much like the others. He is welcomed and he heads on his way to his class. As he is approaching the classroom he hears a loud noise, which turns out  is the students talking.

As soon as he enters the room he tries to quiet down the room, but the students show him major disrespect. The second attempt at quieting the room succeeded because he yelled. He lectured the students about respect and the lunch bell rang. The class was dismissed for lunch, although a student came back and sawed his desk leg so it would break when pressure was applied. The bell rang again and the students came in from lunch, Mr. Thackary put his books on the table and it came down. He picked up the leg and saw that someone sawed it clean in half, yet he accepted it, and went on with teaching. The next morning he walked into the class and saw the women had burnt books and this was the last string he became furious and lectured them and yelled at them to clean up their mess. When he walked back into the classroom the students were more well behaved and the classroom was clean, and then he proceeded to his lesson.

The following day Mr. Thackary came to the classroom and said that there needed to be mutual respect between the students and the teacher. Therefore he set up rules, the students were not pleased with these rules and complained. Yet he still set the rules, and they were practically you respect me I respect you. The female students adapted to it faster and enjoyed it, but the male students were slower to adapt. The boys struggled, although they eventually got it.

Now you may be wondering why I think this well, he changed abundantly. He used to yell and rage at the students but he doesn't anymore. He treats them with respect, he does not individually single them out and makes fun of them. There are also abundant changes in his personality and attitude for example, he is very less authoritarian and much kinder. He came to know what he wanted and it turned out to be that he did not even know.

In the end Mr. Thackary stayed and did not take his other job. He realized that he could help the future students to come. In my many words I express my respect towards him. He was a great teacher and he has years of teaching to look forward to.
