Alessia Cara released the music video to her song “Scars To Your Beautiful” on July 11th, 2016. The meaning behind this song goes much deeper than just something catchy to listen to on the weekends. Alessia brings in a variety of people with different ethnicities, physical scars and disabilities to all share stories of their own lives. This involves finally being able to overcome the insults given by society today. All of these people went through many different life obstacles while struggling with the idea of not fitting in, meeting certain beauty standards, and having to face the every day challenges spoken by judgemental people . They soon realize the most important thing that makes them beautiful is their differences! A very important aspect to this video is simply the lyrics. Alessias physical apperance stands out in her music video. She is dressed casually with her natural hair down while performing with no make-up on. This furthers her message onto how beauty isnt defined with a thousand-dollar outfit nor a full face of make-up. She believes that all beauty goes deeper than our surface. In this music video she refers to herself as a mirror for all people to look in to so she can show them the light that shines within them. She comes across the point that beauty is most important on the inside and it has nothing to do with looking perfect on the outside.
