Lying and telling the truth is a controversial topic. Some may agree it’s fine to lie and some may not. I think that it is fine under certain circumstances.

Lying is acceptable because sometimes you need to lie to get by. In article 4 paragraph 23 it states “ Becoming a good liar is a necessary life-survival skill”. Well, if you didn't want others knowing your personal business you lie because maybe you don't want to tell them that you really don’t trust them. By doing this you're protecting them from not hurting their feelings so they don't feel a different type of way. All in all, you aren't hurting anyone that is involved.

Telling the truth isn't always the best option. Article 1 paragraph 1 it mentions that “You don't want your kids to eat too much so you say all the cookies are gone” and “You don't feel like going out, so you tell your date something important came up.” To avoid hurting a relationship you would lie. By telling a lie that was stated above wont hurt anyone's feelings or make them feel like they did something wrong or you just simply don’t like them and don't want to be around them. Sometimes you just need a break from everyone even though nothing happened by lying it’s bearable.

On the other hand, individuals disagree. In article 2 paragraph 2 by Sissela Bok she remarks by saying “Prohibiting all lies, even those told for the best of purposes or to avoid the most horrible of fates.” “For someone holding such a position, to be called a liar was a mortal insult.” When lying you need to remember the lies that you told that person. Perhaps you got caught in the middle of a lie and someone calls you out for lying you would feel embarrassment and shame. After they caught you they would be careful what they say around you and not trust what your saying is true. It would be hard to earn back their trust over something that wasn't worth lying for. Being called a liar isn't something that anyone would like to be called. It could also affect the way to make friends. For example, if you were trying to make new friends but you are known to be a liar, maybe they would reject you. But, if you were able to establish to lie good it wouldn't be something to stress over. Lying is OK under circumstances. If you are able to keep up with your lies and not get caught then it’s fine. If you don't feel like going out you lie and say that something came up rather than say that you don't want to go. Depending on the person they might take that as being harsh and rude because you made plans and you don't feel like going out it might also make them frustrated. To avoid all of this you should just lie.

By lying, life is so much easier to go about your life. Some would agree and some would think that it’s not acceptable. But overall, lying is just fine.
