Turkish War of Independence Essay Sample

I personally think the biggest event that affected our country the most is Independence War. It occurred in 1919 and since then we have been living in our country peacefully and freely. That occurrence is an unforgettable event in our past that changed our lives and in the following paragraphs, I am going to explain why.

A country needs two essential things. The first one is freedom and the second one is a flag to represent that. If you do not have your rights to be free on your own that means you are not a country by yourself and the powers of the world do not recognize you. After World War 1 other alliances tried to make us sign an agreement. The agreement was called the Treaty of Sevres. The agreement was the nightmare of every country. It was limiting everything that a country could do to protect itself. It did not allow us to put any protection units or soldiers to the borders, it did not allow us to open a council to talk about our country or the needs of our people. Other than that the enemy units keep attacking our villages and also our people. To simplify every matter on that agreement was taking our freedom away from us.

After suffering for a term, a great leader and his friends that had been trying to save our country from enemies took a step forward and begin to make a plan. The first thing to do was unite the community against attackers. They did that. The second thing was finding weapons, bullets to resist in such a poor time. They found them. Finally, the last thing was the action. The one loyal man shot the first bullet in Izmir to a soldier who was trying to beat a child. And then everything has started after a long time of resistance, after fighting in every different city of Turkey we eventually did it. In 1923 the war ended, we won. The alliance finally understood that we were not going to give them our country or our freedom. That was the end of an era.

To summarize my ideas, for our nation most important event was our Independence War. It was not just a war for us. It has been our symbol of our freedom since then. Thanks to our ancestors we are living in a great country with peace.
