TV Series: Greys Anatomy Essay Example

Grey’s Anatomy is a TV series that is full of drama, medical emergencies, friendships, and doctors. The series is 17 seasons long and follows a group of doctors around Grey Sloan Memorial hospital. The doctors are faced with many difficult decisions about their patients, and lean on each other for help. The doctors have many different cases, and start the series out as interns coming to the hospital for the first time, trying to figure out the specialty they want to go into, and learning all about hospital life. and them trying to figure out what specialty they like the best. The interns grow up as the show goes on and you learn a lot about them. As you watch Grey’s Anatomy, you grow with the characters and the show inspires many people to become doctors or go into the medical field. 

One thing that influences people to become doctors is the characters in the show. The people watching the show see what happens in the hospital and want to live it for themselves. Meredith Grey is the main character in the show, and she inspires people to become doctors, and be strong independent people. Throughout the show, we watch as Meredith grows up and has to overcome many challenges in life and at work. A challenge that she has overcome is her relationship with Doctor Derick. Their relationship started out right at the beginning of the show, and throughout the series, many problems came between them and they worked to overcome them. One problem that happened is that Derick ends up being married, and Meredith didn’t know this. Derrick has to choose between the two of them and Meredith says “So pick me. Choose me. Love me” (Grey Anatomy). Meredith has to overcome this challenge with Derick, and inspires many people to be strong women. Elana Fotiou said “You helped me to become this strong and independent woman in this traditionally male dominated field” (ABC News). Meredith didn’t just inspire people to become doctors, she also inspired them to be better people.

Another main character is Miranda Bailey. Miranda is a character that many people want in their life. Miranda is always there for you when you need her, teaches you many life lessons even if you don’t know she is, and is an honest, kind-hearted person. When the interns first met Miranda she came off as a hard bossy person, but as they grew and learned more about her, they learned that she is actually a kind, caring person. When they first met her she told them 5 rules, and rule number one was "Don’t bother sucking up. I already hate you, that’s not gonna change” (Grey’s Anatomy). Miranda changes, and ends up always being there for the interns and making a major impact on their lives. Miranda has encouraged many people to become a doctor by the way she grows and archives her goals. Chandra Wilson says “they told me over and over again and that’s been inspiring and it has started many women on their medical school journey” (“Dr. Bailey…”). 

Along with great characters, Grey’s Anatomy is a long series with many little story lines, but all little story lines come together to make a big story line. There are 17 seasons that are full of many different medical emergencies and dramas. What makes the story lines so good is the amazing actors, good characters, and unique stories. “I think Grey’s Anatomy is passionate and the story line is intricate and well thought out” (Havery). The show teaches us all lessons and brings out emotions. The doctors in the series inspire people to become doctors by the way they always help people and save lives. The series shows the surgeries they go through and how they are performed. Derek Shepherd always says before his surgeries “it’s a beautiful day to save lives” (Grey’s Anatomy). Derek and many other doctors enjoy performing surgeries, and shows the viewers what surgeries are like. The story line is well put together and because of it, they have inspired people to become doctors. 

Throughout the series, you get to watch what the doctors actually do to help people. It shows that the doctors will risk everything just to help their patients. For example, Meredith Grey committed insurance fraud to save a little girl named Gabby. Gabby's dad brought her from another country to get good medical care because she needed a valve instruction. He had been working several jobs but couldn’t get insurance. Meredith knew that she couldn’t just send Gabby off and had to do something about it. So she wrote her daughter's name, Ellis, down on the insurance because she had really good insurance (Grey’s Anatomy).  “I’m going to correct this girl's valve instruction, so hopefully she can see her mom again. If you’d like to have me arrested when I’m done, that's your call” (Grey’s Anatomy).  The doctors will always help the patients, even if it risks everything, which is really inspiring to many people. 

Overall Grey’s Anatomy has amazing characters, a good story line, and you get to see how the doctors help people. The series shows many things that happen in the hospital but also outside of the hospital. It is a great show for anyone but especially people who want to become a doctor or go into the medical field. Watching Grey’s Anatomy inspires people to become a doctor by all the medical things and education happening in the series.
