I think that TV violence can cause harmful effects to young children. I believe that when their brain is not even close to fully developed, it’s hard for the younger kids to really understand what they are watching and how harmful it can be to them. Some children picture everything at such a young stage to be real, how are they supposed to know what’s real, and what's made believed? Some kids consider everything to be realistic and think that what they watch on TV is also what happens in the real world. This could spark some aggressive behaviour and mental health issues in the near future. According to psychological studies, watching violence on television has three primary consequences: Children may become less sensitive to other people's grief and suffering, more scared of the world around them, and more inclined to react violently or injure others. Children love to imitate what they see, for example if you stick your tongue out they’ll do it back, if you roll your eyes they’ll try to copy you. If they see another kid push another kid without punishment on TV, they could potentially act out what they see and expect no discipline from their actions, but be physically hurting somebody, and that is absolutely unacceptable. Sometimes watching one violent movie could provoke violent thoughts and possibly abnormal actions from that child. Not only does it spark aggressive behaviour but as well as many fears such as the world being a big and scary place, afraid of the unknown and like something bad will happen to them. I believe that TV violence robs a child of their sympathy and childhood. The TV is full of all kinds of channels and programs, but a lot of those channels contain weapons, war, violence, killing, murder, kidnapping. William Belson, a British Psychologist, found that every time a child saw someone being shot or killed on television, they became less caring towards other people. He also discovered that every time a child viewed this violence on television, they lost a fragment of their inhibition towards others. According to several psychologists, the early years of a child’s life are considered a critical period for brain development. TV or any kind of electronic media gets in the way of the child’s exploration, play, and interaction with their friends and family which promote learning and healthy psychical and social development. There are some TV shows out there that contain heavy violence which can lead to impulse control issues, a lack of control is a common feature of many psychiatric issues. This lack of control is a part of destructive behaviour that also leads to violent thoughts and actions in children after viewing numerous amounts of violent shows. They become numb to this violence, thinking it is the only way a problem can be solved. TV violence can cause various issues throughout your child’s life, protect them from it.
