Who Was to Blame for Romeo and Juliet's Death Essay Sample

In a story of love and tragedy, Romeo and Juliet would do anything for each other, to the point where they would sacrifice themselves for one another. The couple was inseparable, it started off as a romantic love affair from marriage to the unfortunate death. Although their lives were so much different and confusing their spark never went out. They put in everything for their relationship to work out and to be together. But when the two families are foes, they have no choice but to have a romantic relationship in secret. So when you read their story, would you sacrifice yourself just to be with your loved one? And if you were in their situation, whose fault would it be that you had to go through so much in order to be with them just to end up dying? By using quotes from ¨ The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, we can determine exactly who's to blame for Romeo and Juliet's death.

In the story “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet¨ by William Shakespeare, the prologue mentions that two families, the capulets and the Montagues, are in a feud and dislike each other very much. “ The play will be about a feud between two families (the capulets and the Montagues)” and Juliet's cousin Tybalt also mentions this, ¨ Uncle this is a Montague, our foe”(Shakespeare pg;1015) We can already see how this has already created future problems for Romeo and Juliet. Their families are selfish and won't let either of their children be happy with one another. Little do the capulets and Montagues know that their children will fall in love and wouldn't be able to live without each other, literally. As Romeo and Juliet are already having trouble, more tragedy strikes and Juliet is dealing with a lot of heartaches.  ”Romeo is banished¨- There is no end, no limit, measure, bound, in that word death¨ (Shakespeare 1055) In this paragraph Juliet is talking about the pain she's feeling between Tybats death and her true love Romeo's banishment. She feels as if she would never see him again.  As we read through the story Romeo and Juliet will never give up showing their love and gratitude towards each other. It progressively gets worse as they risk their lives putting themselves in danger just because of the feud between the two families. Taking a look further into the story, we will determine who had the impact on Romeo and Juliet's death. 

As Romeo is banned from Verona, His and Juliet's relationship is thin ice. They don't know any other way how to be with each other causing them to only come up with one thing. They decide to fake Juliet's death and when she awakens she then will sneak out with Romeo and run away together. Who caused them to make such a complicated plan, Why couldn't they be happy together at home and in peace? As mentioned in the first part of the story the Montagues and capulets are in a feud and do not tolerate each other meaning that the families don't accept their relationship and neither do either of the three kingdoms or communities. They all put pressure and angriness on Romeo and Juliet and they caused them to come up with their run-away plan and it failed miserably. Friar Lawrence explains his plan to Romeo and Juliet telling them where they are heading and their secret future together.  ”Mantua, where thou shalt live till we can find a time to blaze your marriage”(Shakespeare 1060)With this, Romeo and Juliet agree with the plan. Later in the story, their plan backfires horrendously and ends the lives of many. Earlier in the story, Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a fake “poison” she can drink to fake her death. In his piece of text, she tells her mother to go away and drinks it. ” Juliet sends her mother away and prepares to take the drug the friar has given her''(Shakespeare 1078) and “ Take thou this vial, being then in bed, and his distilled liquor drink thou off; when presently through all thy veins shall run a cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse Shall keep his native progress but surcease; No warmth, No breath, shall testify thou livest”(Shakespeare 1075)  Once Juliet drinks the liquid she is know pronounced “dead” while her family mourns over her she is then sent to her tomb was later that day Romeo is supposed to meet her. As you can now tell, her family and Verona itself are pushing Juliet to end her relationship with her loved one. Instead of caring for her feelings and letting her be happy they rather let Juliet be miserable. Juliet felt forced into doing something she didn't have to do, instead of letting her and Romeo be happy the capulets made a big thing out of it, so there four she drank her only option. Now so far their plan is going smoothly until tragedy struck with a lack of communication skills and bad luck.

When you plan something as complicated as this you must keep everyone on the same page. Unfortunately, Juliet and Friar Lawrence failed at that. ”Friar Lawrence messenger arrives saying that he was unable to deliver the letter to Romeo''(Shakespeare 1090) Rather than telling Romeo in-person to ensure he knows about Juliet's fake death so he doesn't worry, Romeo's sons discover Juliet in her tomb and completely breaks down. He contemplates what they had to go through just for Juliet to pass. ”Romeo declares his love for Juliet, drinks the poison, and then dies. Shortly after, Friar Laurence arrives and discovers both bodies. When Juliet wakes up, the friar urges her to leave with him before the guard comes. Juliet refuses and when friar Lawrence leaves, she kills herself with Romeo's dagger.``(Shakespeare 1091) Now here is Juliet and Romeo's sacrifice for one another. They felt as if that was the only thing to do in order to feel happy and unbothered. They were constantly nagged about their relationship so they stopped everything. Yes, there were definitely ways this could all have been prevented if there weren't such bad communication skills and selfishness. Now, they are resting with each other now glad to finally be together at last. 

In conclusion, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet'' shared with the audience what selfishness and lack of communication can cause. So based on that we can conclude that Romeo and Juliet's death was caused by the Montagues and capulets' feud along with miss communication.
