Imagine going to the zoo to see the animals and you find out that the animals are being hurt in zoos. The next day, you go out into the wild to observe the animals and how different their lives are compared to life in zoos. You also find that they have different lifestyles than in zoos. Animals should not be kept in zoos because they can’t live a full life in captivity, animals have social problems and animals also have health problems. Animals are not living the best possible lives in zoos. They need to be left in the wild to live a good life and not be stuck in a cage doing nothing.

To begin with, animals can’t live a full life in captivity. When animals have lived for quite a bit in human houses when they are released back into the wild they a lot of the time have no idea how to live in that environment. To further explain this point Kathryn says “What's more, she could not live a full life in a human home. Eventually, the human “parents” decided to send Lucy to live with other chimps in the wild.” Lucy is a chimpanzee. It is not good for wild animals to live in human homes. Hulick goes on to explain that “But Lucy didn't have a clue how to live in the wild, and her health suffered during the adjustment.” If a wild animal were to be raised all their life in a human home, after they are released back into the wild they won’t have a clue how to live in that environment and will maybe end up suffering or even worse, dying.

Furthermore, animals also have social problems. When animals become bored (due to being in captivity) from being in a cage or terrarium, they start to do things they normally would not do in the wild which sometimes leads to health problems. Galadriel emphasizes that,“Some animals may even hurt themselves by pulling out feathers or chewing their tails.” Some things animals end up doing to themselves are plucking feathers, chewing tails, biting cement edges or bars. According to Watson, “clouded leopards don't thrive in zoos. They can get violent with one another, harm themselves by biting their tails or plucking their fur, or spend too much time pacing or hiding. They also don't breed very well.” Clouded leopards do not do well in zoos.

Finally, the animals also end up having health problems. Kathryn Hulick also says “captive whales often chew on the concrete edges of their pools or the steel bars that separate different areas. As a result, most of their teeth are broken, missing, ground down, or drilled out, says Jett.” This causes the whales to not be able to eat well.  Kathryn further explains that, “The whales may also float near the top of the pool for long periods. As a result, they may end up with a sunburn or a flopped-over dorsal fin-a common sight on captive male killer whales. Wild whales' fins are almost always straight.” When animals become bored from being in a cage or terrarium they start to do things they normally would not do in the wild which sometimes leads to health problems such as floating up to the surface of the water for long periods of time and end up getting sunburned. Killer whales are often not very healthy in zoos because they get bored and do things that are not normal.

Animals should not be kept in zoos because they can’t live a full life in captivity, they have social and health problems. Now that some animals are in the wild, they are all living the best lives possible for them in the wild rather than horrible yet good zoos.
