Why Kids Should Not Have Homework Argumentative Essay Example

Although homework is useful for students who are falling behind during lessons kids should not have homework. Firstly, homework can cause critical stress to students, and especially in higher grades. Studies show that 56 percent of students see homework as a primary source of stress. As students get a workload of work they are pressured and think that if they fail they are duller than their classmates, this is terrible for many reasons and can cause depression. Only 33 percent can handle this stress and put the pressure to get good grades. 

Furthermore, doing homework can reduce your sleep and this is especially common in university. The average teenager should have 7-9 hours of sleep and the average child (5-12 years) should have 9-12 hours of sleep, but having to stay up late to do homework can take away precious hours of sleep. It isn’t rare to see a university student staying up all night to do long and tiring work, and losing so much sleep can cause brain damage, and because of low body metabolism, you can put on weight too. 

Lastly, the less homework the more kids can spend time with family, enjoy outdoor activities, and enjoy learning. Giving less homework will allow students to socialize with friends and family and they can enjoy themselves for the evening. Giving less homework means less stress and more time to do things, so now kids can be kids and enjoy outdoor activities. Finally, they will start to enjoy learning as they are being pressured less and not overworked. 

In conclusion, I think schools should keep homework but assign less of it (maybe once a week), and I will also conclude and say that homework doesn’t define how smart you truly are and how smart you can be.
