Why The Act And The Sat Should Be Abolished

The ACT and SAT are standardized tests the students in high school have to take if they want a chance to apply for a college they would like to attend. I believe the ACT and SAT should be abolished. There are a number of reasons why these standardized tests should be abolished. The test should be abolished  Because there are only a few chances to take it throughout the year, the test varies from year to year, and also because sometimes what is on the test teachers can not be taught because they have to stick to their curriculum. Xavier Academic Counselor, Kathleen Gannon, noted that standardized assessments are not “necessarily an authentic reflection of a student’s success in life. There are so many different components in a person.” Senior Talle Donley agreed with this statement also saying, “I don’t assume it’s a correct illustration at all. I have a four GPA. I work tough day-to-day analyzing for tests, doing homework, and getting to know how to be a humble individual in this loopy world.” But, she says she has never been good at taking the standardized test “because it stresses her out.” 

Another reason the STand should be abolished is that there are only a few SAT and ACT offered per year. This does not give college students many chances to take these tests. Students are capable of putting together these tests in 12 months’ time however, there are now not sufficient possibilities to make use of their standardized test taking skills even though the SAT and ACT are the exact same every time a student takes the test, there are different variations of each test. Some standardized tests are not as easy as others, making the test unfair at some points.  ACT tests are not as easy as other tests. The SAT and ACT put  a lot of stress on  students in high school. Stress on the day of a 4 to 5 hour test could be a  reason for scores to drop.

Most high schools make teachers stick to their curriculums, and this prevents instructors from instructing outside of the curriculum. All of the content material on standardized exams are no longer completely included in everyday excessive college classrooms, so instructors that stick very strongly to the curriculum do not cover all the content material on the SAT and ACT. In conclusion, the ACT and SAT should be abolished for many reasons as i mentioned in the body paragraphs. The ACT and SAT should be abolished because the test is not an accurate measure of students' success. Some ACT tests are harder than your regular standardized tests. Teachers also do not have much time to go over what would be on the standardized test because the school makes it to where teachers have a strict curriculum they have to stick to. there is also not enough time or chances to take the standardized tests.
