Animals play an important role in human life. Wild animals are animals that usually live in the wild, examples include: Rhino, lion, tiger, zebra, and many more. Animals that are held in cages are still considered to be wild animals, however, this is incorrect because once you put an animal in a cage it is no longer wild and free. Some people believe that putting animals in cages at the zoo is helpful to the animals, however these people don’t realize that animals have feelings too, and they want to have freedom. I believe that animals should have freedom, and they should not be held captive in a cage because animals should have daily exercise, and they should run and be free, but if they are stuck in cage all the time, then they can’t get the daily exercise they need, and if they can’t get the daily exercise then they could possibly die. Animals should be able to do whatever they please, but in a cage they cannot do the things they want to do.

The first reason is that animals cannot do the things that they are supposed to do like running and exercising.  In the article " Zoos: Pitiful Prisons' ' it states " Animals are often prevented from doing most of the things that are natural and important to them, like running, roaming, flying, climbing, foraging, choosing a partner, and being with others of their own kind.”  This evidence shows that animals cannot follow their natural instincts when they are stuck in a cage. Animals should be able to go wherever they please, and they should be able to run as much as they like.

The second reason is animals have no purpose for being in cages. In the article “ Zoos: Pitiful Prisons” it states “Zoos claim to provide educational opportunities, but most visitors spend only a few minutes at each display, seeking entertainment rather than enlightenment. Over the course of five summers, a curator at the National Zoo followed more than 700 zoo visitors and found that “it didn’t matter what was on display … people [were] treating the exhibits like wallpaper.” This evidence shows that animals have no purpose for being in a cage because all the people want is to take a quick look at them and move on, therefore animals should be let out of their cages to live freely in the wild where they belong.

On the other hand, some people believe that it is good for the animals to be in the zoo because it keeps the animals that are going extinct safe. In the article " Zoos save species'' it states " Zoos and aquariums help preserve endangered species in several ways. First, they are a sanctuary for animals under threat. They act as modern-day arks of hope. " This evidence shows that this author believes that the zoo is a good place for the animals that are going extinct to be. The author of this article argues the fact that animals that are going extinct should be kept in a safe place, so they don't all die off. The author thinks that the animals would not go extinct this way and it would be a good way to keep the animals safe. I agree that the animals at the zoo are very fascinating, but it's not worth the risk of killing the animals just because they don’t have enough exercise.

In conclusion, I think that it is very wrong to keep animals in cages all the time, and I believe that animals need to be released into the wild where they belong. Animals are living things and need to be acknowledged. When the animal doesn't look right they should be released into the wild. Animals need to live the life they were meant to live. How would you feel if you had to sit in a cage all the time?
