American Democracy Essay Example

Have you ever stopped to consider why the United States of America is where it is today? Whether or not you have, the main reason America is on top is because of the way they run themselves. Yes, democracy, the American way of doing things, has proved to withstand for 245 years, and hopefully many more prosperous ones to come. It runs things smoothly (for the most part) with it's three carefully devised branches that split an unspeakable power among an innumerable amount of people that are replaced every six or four years with an effective voting system that has, if I may say so, improved dramatically over the years. So, because of all the political, social, and economical changes the U.S has gone through, it is slowly (or rapidly?) becoming one of the most prosperous countries to ever exist.

Democracy, or at least the American kind of democracy, has been faithfully leading the U.S. from the start in 1789. Even if America began in 1776, its government only started 13 years later because it was kind of busy until then. It takes real diligence and teamwork to run a baby country, but some certain people you might know stepped up and got it off to a good start. It takes brilliant people to effectively manage a country, and I'm sure every country may have a nice handful of brilliant people. Yes, some countries have also withstood the test of time with their way of governing, but less so in a way that allows the people within the country to prosper. What matters about a country is not its military strength nor the power of the leader over his people, but the morale of the people and how ready they are to support their country. U.S. citizens will readily to support their country, this is what brings us all together, and the U.S government will do anything in its power to ensure the welfare and prosperity of its people, this is what makes us a nation.

Granting all the power to one person may make them conceited and power-hungry, and cause them to make bold, rash, or stupid actions. It is always best to have an advisor, or many advisors, around to, you know, advise you. This is another reason why the three branches of U.S democracy function so well, they're always there for each other. The executive branch consists of the main seat of power, little Mr. President, and his (or her!) cabinet which is not a wardrobe full of fancy suits to wear to presidential debates.  The executive branch enforces the law; the legislative branch makes the law, and the judicial branch is the law. The legislative branch makes all final decisions involving war and other international stuff. Any person, no matter how conceited or reckless, is always benefitted by some form of advice from someone who may not be as conceited or as reckless as they are. This also applies to the big rulers, the monarchs and such, of every great (and not-so-great) country out there. In America, with someone to turn to on almost every topic involving politics, the president is more able to make wise decisions to brighten the future of his (or her!) country.

The reason why America flourishes so is not only because of its branches and tree and the like, but also because new people replace the old ones in court; seeing as, just like diapers, some politicians become dirty. No, that's not really why. Some people may be doing an especially bad job in office, or, its just time to share. One can't lead forever, only as long as they are able. Able or not, the president is elected anew every four years to provide new political views and share alternative platforms with the people. This way, mostly everyone is satisfied with their leader, since the only constant is election every four years. Senators are reelected every six years, for similar, though not exact reasons. By handing over the power to less tired and more ready people every quadrennial (or octennial), it reduces the possibility of bad decisions being made due to frustration, impatience, or simply from the idea of holding so much power. It's like going to bed at night, except it's not. In this way, America is staying ahead of the rest of the game through a quick swap of wits and power, while other countries remain stuck with the same leader that may or may not be harming the country's welfare. Though not all American presidents are 'good', they change and ride the wave election every quadrennial, bringing forth a new and improved answer to America's prosperity.

Being the best (and one of the only) democratic nations on the earth, America sets a good example of what a flourishing country should be, with its strong political foundation, its excellent teamwork clever distribution of power, and its effective and ever changing way of staying with the times. Other countries may shine, but America will be a beacon; a beacon of hope for all people who wish for a change. Democracy is the form of government that unites the citizens of a country to fight for their country instead of a monarch, work for their country instead of for money alone, and love their country so that in the end it is no longer a country but a nation united under the sky with liberty and justice for all.
