Research Paper on Gun Control in The U.S.

Gun Control laws have been a accentuate topic in the U.S. for nearly two decades, and yet it sounds like a feasible idea at first glance, some flaws, and indictments can go against the gun laws. Those flaws are: Gun control does not act as a deterrent for gun violence, sanctioning too much gun control can construct a tyrannical government, and education surrounding gun safety is levelheaded compared to blacklisting attachments, offensive weapons, and more. Nevertheless, allow me to depict the history of the 2nd Amendment. Addressing that can clear up misconceptions and caricatures. 

Shortly after the American Revolution, the framers of the Constitution collaborated to update the Articles of Confederation. However, they realized that the A.O.C. was too far from repair, so they forged the Constitution. This historical document had an attachment, that being the Bill of Rights - which was ratified in 1791. One of the rights enlisted within the record was the right to bear arms - to own a firearm(2nd Amendment). This in place as a precaution in case there was a reappearance of red-coats. Additionally, public grocery stores and supermarkets were nonexistent back then, so hunting was conventional. Furthermore, the 2nd Amendment also had its fair use of controversy. Numerous years after the ratification, the amendment made its debut in several court cases. According to History.Com, One of the prevalent ones is the District of Columbia v. Heller case. This court hearing established the necessity of background checks when purchasing a firearm. Needless-to-say, background check is still a hot topic in the Gun Control movement. Moreover, another court case is Mcdonald v. Chicago, which ruled that the 2nd amendment applies to federal and local governments. Moving back to the utilization of a firearm, many civilians misuse and abuse the 2nd Amendment. Some infamous/unfathomable examples include the Sandy Hook Incident, which reportedly killed 20 children and 6 staff members(History.com Editors 1). Another event occurred recently in 2017, which was a mass shooting of people at a country music concert(History.com Editors 1). As a result of these events, President Biden and other Congress members are advocating for harsh gun control laws. Nonetheless, these laws might hurt America itself. 

If you recall, I claimed that teaching adults and children about the proper use of a firearm is more sensible than hastily banning arms. According to the CDC, “actual accidental death and injury data shows that 104 people under 18 were accidentally killed with firearms in 2016, and the number injured in unintentional shootings is so small it…(Snell 1)” Preventing these accidents by evicting weapons is not going to stop these incidents. This has been seen with other countries that have banned their respective second amendment. Gun accidents will still occur, regardless of what you withdraw. However, in the article I just cited, I author insists on exposing young children to guns. The author believes in this because they would be more conscious when they see one in real life. Here is the direct quotation, “Thanks to pop culture, guns enter the consciousnesses of our children at an early age so, by the time they encounter that first gun, they will have already developed some awareness of them(Snell 1).” Having these six-sense can prevent obviate lethal and silly accidents. Furthermore, another coherent point that is brought up the government has provided health, driver, and sex guidance to institutions domestically. If the government is endowing us consciousness regarding those three things, gun safety has to a probable inclusion. 

Nonetheless, the second amendment had a dainty pretension in the Bill of Rights. That is to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. Ironically, the more people embolden gun regulation, the government eventually malformed into its alter-ego. This thought has been a fear for gun purchasers themselves, and they state, "I fear the government, and I think when they start getting background checks, they're going to — just like in Germany years ago, they used that to confiscate weapons later on," David Kulp said (Welna 1).” Another prominent individual, Senator Ted Cruz states, "On guns, do we surrender? Or do we stand up now?" he said. "The Second Amendment provides that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Now, what part of 'shall not be infringed' do they not understand?(Welna 1)" Moreover, the more restrictions are in place, the more the government infringes on gun rights. Thus, creating them into fiendish government. Additionally, research from Pew Research Center States this, “ ...57% of people surveyed by Pew Research in Feb. 2013 said that gun control laws would “give too much power to the government over the people. (Goo 1)” Consequently, if the same remitting act of guns continues, there may be a potential civil war. Albeit there is no proof for this claim, what is happening now, is homologous to what was occurring in 1776.

The main slogan or potential for the Democrats’ initiative is to numb bloodshed, enacted by firearms. Although this is the case, several states have exercised their government power to do so, however they weren’t successful. One of those states in Chicago, which is known to contain fortuitous crime. The city itself had enmity towards assault rifles, so placed various regulations on gun ownership as a whole. Some of those regulations are regarded as one of the toughest, according to Former President Trump(Kurtzleben 1). As a result, they still suffered a mass number of gun misdemeanors. An excerpt states, “It's also true that there were more than 4,000 shooting victims in Chicago in 2016...2016, homicides in Chicago sharply rose, mostly as a result of gun homicides, as the University of Chicago crime lab found in a January report(Kurtzleben 1).” Furthermore, another citation claims this, “...experience shows that adding more gun control does not reduce violent crime. Washington, D.C. has some of the nation’s most restrictive gun control laws, and one of the worst violent crime rates in the country. Britain, Australia, and Canada have all imposed sweeping gun laws in recent years, and rampageous crime rates have increased dramatically…(Guppy 1)” In a nutshell, all of this amounts to a soundly statement. Gun regulations do not stop gun intrusions whatsoever. Instead, the government is overusing its power, and it may hurt American citizens as well. The Federal Government should do a more immeasurable job at one thing, provide General Welfare. If the higher-ups do a frugal job at doing this, then it should come as no surprise if mass shootings occur. 

Despite recent calamities, the legal status of the second amendment is in a decent spot, however, that may change very quickly. Recently in June 2020, the supreme court ruled that forbidding any firearm is unconstitutional. However, due to the resurgence of the Gun Control argument, the supreme court may change its verdict. So in other words, the argument may see the light of day and could affect how the second amendment operates. Furthermore, the ulterior of this issue is also uncertain, however, it may reach a substantial boiling point. With a Democratic President in the house and the Speaker also being Democratic, the conflict might end in their favor. My opinion is that the issue might not ever end unless the Democratic Party and the Republicans compromise. Recently, the two parties had a consistent feud and have shown little to no agreements This feud is fueled by sectionalism, which is prioritizing their party’s beliefs among other things. On the other hand, the Republican party may be emasculate the Democrats’ plan, if they work in unison. However, the percentage of them doing that is very low. Attempting to consolidate and agree might the best solution.
