Argumentative Essay On Killing Animals

“Approximately 197 million animals are killed in a day just for human purpose.”(Pratt). 197 million of anything is a lot. Now, when it is the fact that 197 million are dead the perspective is a lot different. If you kill that many animals just for food, entertainment, and many other things make certain animals become extinct. There are many better ways to get food than just to kill animals. After reading Animal Farm by George Orwell, listening to the TED talk “Feeding The Future” by Jack Sinclair, and reading the database article “Tripadvisors say no to animal exploitation with the new policy” By Mark Pratt, my responsibility to society is to show how animals are beings harmed and showing better ways to feed the people than killing animals. The number of Animal deaths from entertainment or unnecessary purposes needs to decrease drastically. 

In the book, Animal Farm Boxer kills an animal and does not even act like it is a big deal. People nowadays have this mentality when killing an animal if it is doing something to bother them and it is not ok. “He is dead”, said Boxer sorrowfully. “I had no intention of doing that. I forgot that I was wearing iron shoes.” (Orwell 43) This quote shows that Boxer had killed an animal during the war that had happened and he just acts like that since he was wearing iron shoes it was an accident. Many people nowadays can harm or kill animals while thinking it was the right thing to do. Then no one has a good mindset and people believe that they are doing the right thing when these actions are in place. Many people like to kill animals to make or process a certain food when there are way better ways to have access to food. “We need to double food production by 2050. And, the current systems of infrastructure are not capable of doing so by their methods.” (Sinclair). This is showing that what we are currently doing is not working for our environment either. I can guarantee you that killing more animals would not help us double the food production either. There are many better ways to do this than to harm the animal environment. Animals suffering for other people’s entertainment and unnecessary purposes is not acceptable by any means. People are trying to make a difference to help the animals. 

People around the world are starting to see how animals are being harmed for no good reason. So some people decided to start canceling events where animals could be possibly harmed. “Travel website TripAdvisor says it's taking a stand against animal exploitation by no longer selling bookings to attractions where travelers can make physical contact with captive wild animals or endangered species.” (Pratt) This shows that they are starting to take precautions because of animals being harmed. Now they are making it so people can not have physical contact with the animals because people like to do stupid stuff. This truly helps and prevents animal deaths just by making this decision. People do not know statistically how much they harm animals and what it does to our society. So there are now links that explain what people are doing, “The company, based in Needham, also will start providing links on its site to take users to educational research on animal welfare and conservation.” (Pratt) People kill all these animals because someone could think it’s funny, they are hungry, hunting. They truly do not know the impact of what they are doing to our society just by doing these little actions. There could be many better options or if people are more educated about this topic they would understand more how it affects everything. People are starting to make a difference and are helping the animals survive. Animal exploitation around the world is becoming a bigger problem each day. 

People do not understand what they are doing because some people use it as a joke almost for entertainment purposes. On the other hand, some people also know how to prevent animal exploitation and they are making a change to help this. Approximately 197 million animals are dying daily. Animals are suffering daily for crucial purposes that can easily be prevented. If people continue to keep killing animals for entertainment, food, and furniture then we will soon run out of species of animals when there are better ways to get these products. People should become more informed about animals and stop exploiting them for no good reason.
