What might be a good way to make sure children are being safe and healthy while on their phones? The answer to this is not limited screen time. The phone, made to allow communication and creativity within the brain, teaches children how to become responsible and independent with their own personal belonging. Limited screen time would limit a child's access to communication and the ability to research topics. A phone forces a child to become responsible of it. Free access to the phone helps a child learn responsibility/independent skills, helps a child be creative, and it allows children to research/ do things when needed.

Free rein of an electronic teaches children responsibility. Responsibility is key to a happy and successful adult life, but so is independence. As a young adult, freedom and independence is all a teenager wants. When restricted, it doesn't allow the child to become fully aware that they are responsible for any damages to the electronic. If a child is free on the phone, when damages come, it will teach the child a full and impactful lesson. Independence fluently corresponds with responsibility. Social media can have social benefits, for example, joining online clubs can help children practice using social media safely. Today, children can independently research anything they are interested in at a click of a button. Because of this, a parent might worry that free access will lead to an obsessive amount of screen time and inappropriate use. Many apps like Kaspersky Safe Kids, Norton Family Premier, FamilyTimeFree, and Qustodio all offer options that can block different apps/websites, but still allowed the child to be responsible with his/her screen time. This is why, if a child has free access, this will build personal responsibility.

Restricted time use can limit the creativity of a child. Creativity allows people to view and solve problems more openly and with innovation. A creative person opens up the mind of themselves and others. Creativity allows others to live a flamboyant life-style. Limited screen time shuts that off. For example, a child could be building something extraordinary, and new ideas are popping into their head one after another. They could be building a whole new world in minecraft, or creating code for a new game. Then, the app shuts off. That is the end of all the creative ideas going on inside their head. Exciting conversations between two best friends quickly end before they can say goodbye to each other. Many apps are used to restrict different websites, but still allow people to continue their creative flow. If excessive use comes into play, a parent can ask their child to quit what they are doing, and continue their creativity later. This is why limited screen time shouldn't be used because it can stop children from their creative flow.

Limited screen time might limit a child's ability to research and/or do a needed task. A New York Times source believes that over 2 million children in the U.S. stay home alone at least once every day. Another source states that over 3.5 million children have had to go to the hospital because of a small accident that occurred at home. This source also says that more than 2,000 children have died because they were not able to reach a hospital in time. These deaths could easily be a much higher number if a cell phone wasn't accessible. For example, screen time can shut off a child's ability to call for help during an emergency. This is very dangerous and possibly the number one reason these fatalities have occurred. More than 70% of students admit that they are overwhelmed and struggle with the excessive amount of homework they are given every night.  The ability to research and use sources could decrease these numbers. Though because of limited screen time, hours and hours of stressful homework are a problem for many children.

This is why limited screen time can cause issues with researching or doing a task.

In conclusion, limited screen time is not a necessity. Limited screen time causes dangers, but also takes away the fun of just having a phone. Many children are stressed to quickly get on their phone, and complete every sing task before their screen time runs out. This can also increase excessive screen time, anger, and stress. With free rein of a phone/electronic, it teaches children how to become more responsible within themselves, but also out in the world. A phone/electronic teaches a child many social habits that can benefit them in life. Because of a phone, many children have learned things adults have not even heard of. This is why limited screen time is not needed in a child's daily life.
