What if you knew someone was innocent but they were still found guilty? Have you ever been in a town where all people are racist? This book is about a man named Tom Robinson who is accused of rape and abuse and he is completly innocent but since he is black he is found guilty because the jury is racsist. The name of this book is How To Kill A MockingBird this book is by: Harper Lee. There is a character named Atticus Finch he is a lawyer and he is defending a negro named Tom Robinson and Tom is being accused of rape by Mayella Uwell. It makes sense for Atticus to defend Tom Robinson because Atticus sees people the same.  Tom Robinson is facing discrimination in this book because even when the jury knows hes innocent they still convicted him.

People shouldn’t have to be judged because of the way that they look. Atticus Finch is telling his daughter Scout Finch this quote and he is basically trying to teach her a life lesson.“Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win” Page 87 Chapter 9.The evidence that I’ve provided connects with my reasoning because it has to do with Atticus teaching Scout that later is better than never. What makes this evidence compelling is that it shows that Atticus is scared to do something later than usual. This quote also shows Atticus telling Scout it's never too late to do something. I use this quote to show that Atticus is basically saying “Just because we are being racist it's not too late to change it”. Atticus is a lawyer and Scout is his younger daughter.“You mean if you didn’t defend that man, Jem and me wouldn't have to mind you any more?”......”That's about right” Page 86.This evidence connects to the reason because Atticus sees how he will be treated and he thinks about the future instead of thinking about the short term. I think that this evidence is compelling because it connects Atticus’s feelings to his work. This also shows that Atticus cares about defending Tom so much. I say this because also his respect depends on his value of the way he is presented in the town.  This also shows that Atticus cares about Scout and Jem because he is telling her that defending Tom will set a lesson for Scout and Jem. Atticus is a very intelligent and kind person. This is shown in this paragraph because Atticus is showing him not judging all people from the way that they were made. Atticus believes this and that is also the reason that he defended Tom.

Atticus is an astute person and I say this because Atticus is always trying and thinking ahead and setting a good example for Scout and Jem. This quote is said by Atticus Finch and it is being said to his daughter Scout Finch. “I do my best to love everybody… I'm hard put sometimes”. Page 124 This evidence makes sense because it shows that Atticus loves and respects everyone. This quote also shows Atticus not treating people differently like the other people of Maycomb County that are racist. What makes this evidence compelling is because it shows Atticus’s true character and how he really acts compared to the other people in Maycomb County. This also shows Atticus gives the same respect that he is given by the people of Maycomb. This quote is said by Mrs Henry Lafayette Dubose she is talking about Atticus Finch. This quote is said by Mrs Henry Lafayette Dubose she is talking about Atticus Finch.Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is in public”. Page 61.This connects because it shows that Atticus doesn’t switch up his flow and he is the same person everywhere he goes. What makes this piece of evidence compelling is that even his neighbor notices that he is such a professional person and that he doesn't change his actions because of someone. This also shows that everyone knows how Atticus acts and he isn’t going to change his idea or something because of the people around him. What I'm basically trying to say is that almost 100% of white people in Maycomb county are racist and Atticus isnt but he isn’t going to be racist because of the people that are around and he won’t change under pressure.Atticus is the type of person that doesn’t care about what the people around him are thinking. In conclusion I'm trying to say that most of the town didn’t want Atticus to defend Tom Robinson and they were talking about him and he still defended Tom Robinson.

My opposition might say that Atticus shouldn’t defend Tom Robinson because he is a black person. Tom Robinson is in court in this quote.“Are you disrespecting me boy” Chapter 18Tom Robinson is black and disrespectful towards Mr.Gilmer. It also doesn’t make sense for Atticus to defend Tom Robinson because Atticus a white man with a lot of respect, shouldn't be defending Tom Robinson a black man with no respect. In conclusion but Atticus shouldn’t defend Tom Robinson because he is black and he is being accused of rape which is a big problem that is a big deal in Maycomb County.Tom Robinson is saying this while he is being asked questions in court.“Mr.Finch if you were a nigger like me you’d be scared too”. Page 223 This evidence shows that Tom Robinson is scared because he is a black person. What makes this evidence more compelling is that everyone that is on the jurys knows that Tom Robinson is innocent but he is still being convicted because he is a person of color.Tom Robinson shouldn’t be defended by Atticus Finch because he is a bad person and he is already guilty because all these white people see him and they wouldn’t lie they have too much power and respect.

In conclusion, I think that Atticus should defend Tom Robinson because it is showing that the people of Maycomb County are wrong about people and especially black people like Tom Robinson. Atticus is a man that has high respect and knowledge in the town and everyone is aware of his high respect. So, Atticus should defend Tom Robinson because Tom Robinson is just another regular human but everyone in Maycomb County is treating Tom like he is different because of his skin color. To sum everything up Atticus shouldn’t listen to the town of Maycomb and just defend Tom because just like I said before he is just another human being.
