Analysis Of Neat People Vs. Sloppy People

Was Suzanne Britt’s main intention with “Neat people vs. Sloppy people '' to make an entertaining satire for her readers to enjoy, or was it to project her true, yet unusual opinion. Immediately, a taste of the undeniable act of comedic genius, with the opening passage executed perfectly, with the first sentence captivating any reader's attention, “Neat people are lazier and meaner than sloppy people''. 

Immediately, this gauges the reader's attention, with them contemplating, how neat people can be described as lazy and mean. This is the first instance where the reader might predict that the following content will be a satire of sorts. This quote describes the real qualities that neat people possess, how they are not as positive as they seem, instead they can be polarizing, and odious, not to mention loofy. This statement is riddled with confusing meaning for the reader to digest. Furthermore, to describe sloppy people, Suzanne does not use words like, unorganized or messy, instead she uses words like “perfect” and “stupendous”, words that are not often associated with sloppy people, furthering the possibility of the satiric approach. Moving forth to how Suzanne Britts describes the neat people in society, this quote sums her presented opinion in the text up quite nicely, “Neat people are bums and clods at heart”. 

This can be received as her stating that all neat people are egotistical, self-centered, heartless, and insensitive. Stereotyping any one community with this description, is clearly awry, again furthering the satirical complex of text. The preceding quote is my personal favorite and it reflects the obnoxious and comedic nature of the text, “Neat people will toy with the idea of throwing the children out of the house just to cut down on the clutter”. This phrase's extremity is not only hysterical, but suggests how these proclamations aren’t serious, and are simply for entertainment's sake. Moving to the possibility that the content discussed during the course of the story holds some truth in regards to Suzannes opinion of neat vs. sloppy peoples’ hierarchy. A quote that supports this possibility is “Their sloppiness is merely the unfortunate consequence of their extreme moral rectitude”, this suggests that Suzanne might genuinely believe that the sloppiness observed from sloppy people is just their moral compass, they keep their belongings instead of throwing them away, to cherish the virtues and memories the items bring. 

Another quote that portrays a possible ounce of truth with Suzannes opinion that neat people are inferior to sloppy people is as follows, “But while these ambitious plans take clearer and clearer shape in their heads, the books spill from the shelves onto the floor, the clothes pile up in the hamper and closet, the family mementos accumulate in every drawer, the surface of the desk is buried under mounds of paper, and the unread magazines threaten to reach the ceiling.” This quote suggests that Suzzane views sloppy people to be working for a further goal, one that can not be attained by the normal person, they allocate their energy and focus into ideas that neat people struggle to even comprehend. Sacrificing their neatness to allow themselves to concentrate on the things that only they can do. The list of quotes on both sides of the card go on and on, making the question “does Suzanne Britt truly believe that neat people are inferior to sloppy people” viable. 

From the information and the manner in which it was presented, Suzanne Britt either uses satirical concepts to grasp the attention of her readers and then present her truthful opinion, or she has tried to present her readers with an entertaining article without her hidden opinion sprinkled alongside it, either way it was more than entertaining for the reader.
