Animal Farm Similarities Between Napoleon And Stalin (Free Essay Sample)

Napoleon's actions are very symbolic and similar to the actions of Joseph Stalin. Russia was taken over by the communist Stalin, who used military means to gain control over the land. Napoleon did the same by using the puppies to instill fear in the other farm animals. George Orwell has based his characters in Animal Farm really well. They portray each characteristic very well. Napoleon, a very rowdy fella, comparable to Joseph Stalin, is an example. 

Napoleon is based on Joseph Stalin.  He was a leader in the Soviet Union.  Napoleon uses the military to gain control over the farm. Stalin does the same by using militaristic means of communism. Napoleon secretly took in the puppies right after they were born, and unexpectedly raised them as his guard dogs, forcing them to go against even their parents. Stalin does the same by drafting young men and forcing them to go against their own people.

Both Napoleon and Stalin used Snowball or Trotsky as a scapegoat to frame them for the farm problems. Since Napoleon framed Snowball, the rest of the farm animals forced him out of the farm. Napoleon blamed the wreck of the windmill on Snowball, so when Snowball reappeared, they kicked him out and Napoleon used his dogs to bite him and eventually killed snowball. Stalin did the same by framing Trotsky for the country’s problems and made the people believe that their problems were the fault of Trotskys.

Napoleon and Stalin are not talkers. They both avoid talking and use someone else to talk for them. Squealer does most of the talking and works for Napoleon. Molotov also does most of the public speaking for Stalin. Both Squealer and Molotov do the public speaking for their leaders.

In conclusion, Napoleon and Stalin are very similar and are portrayed very well. They both gained control over the land by using militaristic means and manipulative power. Napoleon and Stalin used the person that was an idealist in the group as a scapegoat. However, both are not good speakers and use their right-hand man to do most of their speaking.
