Application Essay Example: The Musician

My name is Isaiah Carpenter, and I plan on achieving a major in music education. The reason for this is the strong passion for music I have had since I was younger. I always thought it was cool how there are many different forms of music, and as I got older, I realized I’d love teaching it one day. After obtaining my degree, I understand that it may not be as simple as to go straight into the teaching field. I plan on becoming a local music tutor for schools and groups in the surrounding areas. My tutor work will be for a plethora of different instruments after learning how to play a majority of them in school. After I get enough connections with other musicians, tutors I will begin to do research on which school district I’d like to work in. With my tutoring experience, it will give me a good idea of which age group of students I’d prefer to teach, if given the choice. I feel like the degree can also make me appear as a more professional and credible person. The reason for this is the multiple years and countless nights spent on studying, extracurriculars like band or competitive ensembles, and the commitment I had required in achieving my music education degree. I can show those younger than me who grew up under certain circumstances that anything is possible with enough determination. You just need the mindset to prove everyone wrong who ever doubted you, and to succeed for the loved one still cheering you on now, or the ones up in Heaven providing their support from above. I can also provide my feedback to those who have questions about activities and choices I made that set me on the path to achieve my goals of having my dream occupation.
