Blindness in Romeo and Juliet Essay Sample

Suppose you were born into a family filled with hatred and evil intent toward another household, but you fall in love with someone you were born to hate, but the hostility of the family, and being blinded by your urge to love someone leads to a tragedy. This is the circumstance in Romeo and Juliet, a Shakspear play about two teenagers who are blinded by each other's fancy, so much so that it leads to their demise. There are many representations of Romeo and Juliet's “love” being fascinated in the story. Some individuals may say that their love was authentic, but this is false because of how Romeo's perspective on love altered, from being heartbroken about Rosaline and moving on to Juliet. Romeo and Juliet's Love is like a fantasy because as soon as they see each other, they fall in love without even speaking to each other. After all, they are too immature to comprehend the significance of love. An instance of Romeo and Juliet's love not being genuine is when Romeo is talking to Benvolio about how his breakup with Rosaline has affected him, but soon after he has seen Juliet at a party, he forgets all about Rosaline As shown in this scene where Romeo is crying to Benvolio about what he feels about love after his breakup with Rosaline, “Here’s much to do with hate but more with love. Why then, O brawling love, O loving hate, O anything of nothing first created! O heavy lightness, serious vanity.” (1.1.165-168)  This shows that Romeo is heartbroken about what happened with Rosaline and believes that love is very cruel and could break someone. Despite his claim about love, It is ironic how he says this because when he first notices Juliet he proclaims to be in love when in reality, he is blinded by her beauty, this is shown when Romeo says “Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear, Beauty too rich for use” (1.5.40-45) showing that without even speaking to Juliet,  he falls in love and completely forgets about the last time he was in a relationship that left him heartbroken. In conclusion, Romeo and Juliet's love is like a fairy story because they fall in love as soon as they see each other and without even speaking to each other. After all, they are too young to understand the importance of love.  In the story, Shakespeare represents how someone can be so eager to love but not cautious about their surroundings, just like how both Romeo and Juliet knew that both of their families had hated each other they kept on trying to be with each other which only led on to more and more consequences. A case of this is shown when Friar Laurence weds Romeo and Juliet in secret, but after, Romeo kills Tybalt in rage at the death of Mercutio which leads to Romeo being banished and arguing with her father not wanting to marry Paris not only because she doesn't love him, it is because she had already married. As shown in the scene with Juliet arguing with her father about not wanting to marry Paris: Is there no pity sitting in the clouds That sees into the bottom of my grief?— O sweet my mother, cast me not away! Proving that her infatuation and marriage with Romeo may lead to her as her father threatens as shown here when he says: “Look to ’t, think on ’t, I do not use to jest. Thursday is near. Lay hand on heart, advise. An you be mine, I’ll give you to my friend. An you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets,” (3.5.190-195)  Another example of this is shown when Juliet fakes her death in her plan to not marry Paris she misleads Romeo into thinking hes dead, thus leading to both of their demise. As shown in this scene where Romeo kills himself in prusit of thinking hes going to be with Juliet in the afterlife but she really isnt dead: “Doing more murder in this loathsome world, Than these poor compounds that thou mayst not sell. I sell thee poison. Thou hast sold me none. Farewell. Buy food, and get thyself in flesh.— Come, cordial and not poison, go with me To Juliet’s grave, for there must I use thee. In closing,  (5.1.85-90) Shakespeare represents how someone can be so eager to love but not cautious about their surroundings, just like how both Romeo and Juliet knew that both of their families had hated each other they kept on trying to be with each other which only led on to more and more consequences.
