Many people undertake missions but there is always a reason why they want to undertake that mission.In this essay, I will be discussing is called of the klondike by David Meissner and Kim Richardson, another side of the sky by Farah Ahmedi, and the final new direction by Maya Angelou.In the story “Call of the klondike” Stanley pierce went on a journey well knowing the risk of death to try to find gold. And in “other side of the sky” Farah Ahmadi went on a mission to escape Afghanistan to survive and have a better life. And the final story I will be talking about will be new direction where a woman was left by her husband and had to support her 2 children so she started a business.People undertake a mission to have some excitement in their life or to survive.

In this paragraph, I will discuss call of the klondike. On July 17, 1897, Stanley pierce was there when 68 miners stepped off the S.S. portland steamship with the most precious metal in the world gold.’Stanley Pearce and Marshall Bond were in Seattle, Washington, when it happened. On July 17, 1897, sixty-eight rugged miners stepped off the S.S. Portland steamship and made their way through the excited crowd. They were carrying large sacks filled with the most precious metal in the world—gold.’’This shows that on July 17, 1897, miners came off the  S.S. Portland steamship with lots of gold.Stanley pierce went to go try to find gold to become rich knowing the risk of death.‘’It was inky dark and the river trail has been freshly blown over with snow. We have to go up the river and cross it three times. Soon there was trouble. Men and women were off the trail and up to their necks in snow. Finally some one produced a candle and I volunteered to lead the procession, having had experience carrying a candle underground, I therefore had the novel experience of leading a stampede six miles up the Yukon by candlelight.’’This shows that Stanley knew about the risk of death but decided to go to try to find gold. On July 17, 1897, the S.S. steamship came back and many people came with gold so Stanley pierce went to go try to find gold knowing the risk of death.

In this paragraph, I will discuss the other side of the sky. Farah Ahmedi lived in a war-filled country, Afghanistan, and she was determined to leave to survive and have a better life.‘’The Afghans were yelling something, and the Pakistanis were yelling back. My mother was clutching her side and gasping for breath, trying to keep up. I felt desperate to get through, because the sun was setting, and if we got stuck here, what were we going to do? Where would we stay? There was nothing here, no town, no hotel, no buildings, just the desert. ‘’This shows that she and many others were desperate to get through but the Pakistan guards wouldn’t let them through for some reason. And there was nothing there so she wanted to get through.Even though she had a prosthetic leg she was still determined to leave afghanistan no matter what.‘’ I myself hardly felt the exertion. I was walking quite well that day, quite athletically. I had that good prosthetic leg from Germany. The foot was a little worn by then, but not enough to slow me down. Thinking back, I’m puzzled, actually. How did I scale that mountain so easily? How did I climb down the other side? These days I find it hard to clamber up two or three flights of stairs, even. I don’t know what made me so supple and strong that day, but I felt no hardship, no anxiety or fear, just concentration, and intensity.’’This shows that even though she had a prosthetic leg she was determined to leave. Even though it was hard to go up flights of stairs she crossed a mountain because she was so determined to have a better life.Farah Amedi lived in Afghanistan a war-filled country she had a prosthetic leg and she was determined to leave so she and her mother can survive and have a better life to do this she crossed a mountain to accomplish this goal.

In this paragraph, I will discuss new direction Annie Johnson’s marriage failed and she was left with her 2 toddlers and little money with not much of an education.‘’In 1903 the late Mrs. Annie Johnson of Arkansas found herself with two toddling sons, very little money, a slight ability to read and add simple numbers.’’This shows that she had 2 children and little money so she couldn’t provide for them and with a little education she had a low chance of getting a good job.She then started to sell pies at the lumber mill and the cotton farm to provide for her children and never disappointed her customers.‘’For the next few years, on balmy spring days, blistering summer noon, and cold, wet, and wintry middays, Annie never disappointed her customers, who could count on seeing the tall, brown-skin woman bent over her brazier, carefully turning the meat pies. ‘’This shows that no matter what she never took a break from hot days and cold days no matter what she never disappointed a customer. Annie johnsons marriage didn’t work out and she was left with 2 children and very little money and to support her children she started to sell pies and became successful.

People undertake a mission to have some excitement in their life or to survive.In call of the klondike, Stanley pierce took on a mission to find gold, and to become rich he took on his mission becasue he wanted to be rich. And on another side of the sky, Farah Ahmedi lived in a war-filled country and she wanted to escape to survive and have a better life. And finally, in a new direction Annie johnson was left with 2 kids and little money she didn’t have much of an education but started to sell pies to make money to support her children and soon became successful.It’s important to consider that people take on missions to have excitement in their life or to survive becasue people dont just take on a mission for no reason there is always i reason mostly for excitement or for survival.
