Pride, Fame, Glory, is all one-man wants, his name is Beowulf. A story about a hero from a very long time ago that is still here today due to the meanings and lessons within the story. The unknown writer uses alliteration throughout the story to give the reader different feelings and visions during the story. The alliterative “S” is used to enhance the fact that he is still brave and strong in lines 632-635, “Then Beowulf rose, still brave, still strong, and with his shield at his side… strode calmly, confidently”. Even with him being older now he will continue to be brave. The alliteration creates a hopeful or prideful effect since the reader can envision Beowulf standing strong and confidently while still being calm after he has risen back up.

The image of Beowulf rising and still calm and brave gives the reader a sense of pride and a little bit of adrenaline, it’s like when you’re watching a movie and the main character gets back up again after it looks like he’s lost. All of this contributes to the author’s imagery as well, the repeated Ss aren’t meant to sound like a sword or shield they’re put in there to enhance the fact that he is persisting on fighting and will continue with it as he is brave, fearless, and unworried.

The reader can see Beowulf standing up and getting ready to fight. The author has used tons of different ways to connect the reader with the story including alliteration, he’s also left many different meanings and connections to Christianity as well as it being a part of epic poetry. That is why it is still within the schools today.
