Lord Capulet Responsible for the Deaths of Juliet Essay Example

Lord Capulet contributed to the death of his own daughter, Juliet. He forced Juliet to marry Paris who she does not love. The hatred between the two families, the Montagues and Capulets caused Juliet's death. Lord Capulet's manipulation and aggression towards Juliet led to the tragic death of Juliet. Lord Capulet is most responsible for the death of Juliet in the Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet.

Capulet pressures Juliet to marry Paris, which results in Juliet faking her death and eventually killing herself. He works day and night to try to find Juliet a perfect husband, and she shows no gratitude. “Thank me no thankings, nor proud me no prouds, / To go with Paris to Saint Peter’s Church” (III, v, 154). Lord Capulet threatens to leave her on the streets if she does not marry Paris. “Graze where you will, you shall not house with me” (III, i, 189). The only way Juliet can escape the pressure her father puts on her is by faking her death. 

The way Lord Capulet keeps the ongoing feud between the Montagues and Capulets so strong, results in the death of Juliet. The prologue reads “Doth with their death bury their parents strife” (8 pg. 9). The conflict between the two families is between the parents, not the kids. The parents of both families are bringing their kids into this never ending quarrel and hatred. Both families have exclusive parties that the other family is not allowed to attend. Socializing and mixing with both families is forbidden. This hatred between the two families is what is stopping Juliet and Romeo from being together. The only way they can flee the hatred of the families is by faking their death which then results in Juliet's tragic death. 

Lord Capulet's aggression and manipulation towards his daughter lead to her death. He’s controlling and is not a loving father. He treats his daughter like a second class citizen and thinks she has no ideas or opinions. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris her father becomes verbally abusive. He calls Juliet rude names and curses at her. Lord Capulet calls Juliet “young baggage! Disobedient wretch” (III, v, 161)! They have a toxic relationship and not a paternity healthy relationship. He calls Juliet “Disobedient” as she is falling to obey her father by saying she will not go into a loveless marriage. Juliet's only way of getting away from their terrible relationship was by faking her death and then eventually killing herself.

The way Lord Capulet treated his daughter cruelly and unusually led to the death of Juliet. He did not treat Juliet like his daughter and had no respect for her. Capulet is selfish and only cared about what he thought was good for Juliet and not what she thought was good for herself. No daughter should be treated the way Juliet was treated by her father, in Romeo and Juliet. Juliet could no longer stand his aggression and pressure, so she went and faked her death, and then killed herself. Lord Capulet is highly responsible for the death of his own daughter, Juliet.
