‘Even the blind men’s dog appeared to know him; and when they saw him coming on, would tug their owners into doorways and up courts; and then would wag their tails as though they said, ‘No eye at all is better than an evil eye dark master’ ”A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens. Based on the character Ebenezer Scrooge who was a cruel, monotonous, greedy, selfish, ungiving man, who hates everything to do with the Christmas holidays. Our story takes place in London, the year 1843, during the Industrial Age. To answer the question. How does Ebenezer Scrooge’s character transform throughout the course of the novela?

In my opinion, Ebenezer’s change in opinion of the poor, is the most drastic, and yet important change. We transform from “ ‘If they would rather die,’ said Scrooge, ‘they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.’ ”After being visited by the spirits and demonstrating how poor people work for what they have, and still manage to be happy. To donating a hefty sum to a charity, buying a turkey the size of a child, and giving it to Bob’s family, greatly raising Bob’s salary, and understanding how poor people work hard, and they are still happy with what they have.

While reading the text you can easily identify that in the beginning of the story, Scrooge obviously resents Christmas. During an interaction between himself and Fred, Ebenezer Scrooge states; “ ‘Let me leave it alone, then,’ said Scrooge ‘Much good may it do you! Much good it has ever done you!’ ”referring to the holidays. Is that because he has no one to spend it with? After being visited by the three spirits, he realizes how happy the time of year makes people, how it reconnects families, and brings out the best in everyone.PLOP, he lands right back in his bedroom, quickly identifying multiple locations he saw, during his visit.. ‘It’s Christmas Day!’ said Scrooge to himself. ‘I haven’t missed it. The spirit has done it all in one night! They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can. Hallo, my fine fellow!’ ” By the tone in his voice you can identify the happiness from the fact. How? By recording the common use of exclamation marks.

Scrooge has simply become kinder to others. I have a handful of examples. From sending his own nephew Fred away for simply enjoying the holidays. Then after being visited by the Ghost Of Christmas Past, realizing he had been so rude to the son of the girl who loved him unconditionally. As an attempt to make amends he attends his Christmas party. Another example, Bob Cratchet, not allowing him to warm himself by the fire, not giving him the holiday off, and barely paying him enough money for his family to manage.  When he was visited by the spirits he noticed that although his family had so little, thanks to him, they still did their best to be positive. In which made him realize that all of his horrendous actions have greatly negatively impacted both him, and his entire family's lives. In an attempt to make amends, he treats him to a warm fire, a holiday off of work, a large turkey, larger than a small boy, and a huge sum in raise.

In conclusion, From “Humbug!” to “As good a man as the good old city knew.” Ebenezer Scrooge has drastically changed over the course of the novela. In fact for the better! “He had no further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the total abstinence principle even afterwards”.
