In A Raisin in the Sun, Travis’ dream is simply to live his life as a happy normal boy with his family. Given his economic situation and race, it may be a bit hard for him to do so because of the racial injustice and mocks from White people. Although it may be hard for him to achieve his dream, it most definitely is a good dream to fight for. I may not live in a time that judges people based on their race like Travis’ time but I identify my dream closest to Travis since our dreams are similar. I relate to his dream of being able to live a peaceful and happy life despite the oppressive people around me.

Travis’ dream is the one I identify with the most because my dream is to live a happy and normal life which is the same as Travis. Travis’ dream is to live his life like any normal boy would and he wants to live happily with his family. My dream is to be able to live a life of ease and happiness which is almost the same as Travis’ dream. More of my dreams are to learn how to drive, get a stable good paying job, eventually buy a house and live by myself, and to just be able to travel to different countries. My overall dream is to have a good paying stable job that allows me to travel and be happy without any other worries. An example I have from the film isn’t exactly what Travis says himself but what was implied and it was that he was excited about having a new house to live in with his family. He was joyful to see that his family now have a house of their own and they’ll finally be a happy family who can live normally.

Me and Travis’ dreams are similar because we don’t desire much other than to live peacefully and happily with the people we care about. The two of us wish to be at peace and live a happy life. The two of us want to share our happy life with the people we care and cherish the most. Our dreams do have their differences which lie within the people we include in our lives. Travis’  happy life greatly consists of his family whereas I don’t really include mine in my dreams. In Travis’ dream, he wants to live it with his family and enjoy it with them whereas my dream is to enjoy it with myself and my friends. I want to live a life that satisfies me and leaves me in peace. I want to live my dream with my friends, not my family like Travis wants for himself. What I see as my greatest obstacle may currently be the stress from school and later the stress from work for money. Travis’ obstacle was the stress he saw all his family members holding and his parents’ strained relationship. The greatest obstacle we both hold is the fact that we both are still children who have no money. The obstacle that is blocking me the most is the lack of money and the fact that I am still a student with no stable job. I am still a student who lacks a job and that would leave me without money and I wouldn’t be able to buy a house just yet. I would also not be able to travel since I am still jobless.

In conclusion, I relate myself the most to Travis and identify my dreams to his. Our dreams are just to live a happy life with the people that are important to us. When our dreams are compared together, it is almost just the same dream. We do of course have some differences since we are different people which is the people we want to have with us during the time we live our dreams. The biggest obstacle for the two of us is the money that we lack. The thing I see as my biggest obstacle is the fact that I am still a jobless student who has yet to be independent enough. Overall, I associate myself most with Travis because we share a similar dream that we wish to achieve.
