Underground Soldier by Marsha Skrypuch Book Analysis Example

My book that i'll be introducing is called underground soldier from the author Marsha skrypuch. Luka is a thirteen year aged boy who is a wounded slave labourer in a Nazi work camp in 1943, during World War II. Luka's mother was taken by the Nazis and is a slave labourer in an unknown camp. He escapes in a waggon of corpses and tries to walk back to Kyiv in the hopes of finding his father, who had been imprisoned in Siberia by the Soviets (Luka's father had been imprisoned in Siberia by the Soviets). Instead of avoiding the battle, he finds himself marching straight into it. The Ukrainian Liberation Army, an inter organisation of underground freedom fighters who steal weapons from Nazis and Soviets and battle both harsh governments, saves him. Luka joins them and fights alongside them, but his yearning to locate his parents and reconcile with his beloved Lida, whom he last saw at the slave labour camp, never fades.

If you were to track back our steps, how did he survive avoiding the battle?   He starts out towards the far mountains, but Luka slashes his foot badly when trekking through a farmer's muddy field. Luka manages to find shelter in the farmer's barn despite being cold, hungry, and ill-prepared for travel. Following morning, his luck changes when he is caught attempting to steal food from the farmer's well-stocked pantry by the farmer's wife. The farmers, Helmut and Margarete, are Germans who were handed the property by the Nazis after they conquered the region. Claus, who is serving on the Eastern Front, and Martin, of whom they say nothing, are their two boys. Helmut's property lies near Breslau, in what was formerly Poland but is now part of the Third Reich, Luka discovers. All of the Poles who resided on these farms were forcibly evicted, and Germans were forced to take over. These two farmers took care of Luka as they fed him potato pancakes or the leftovers. They also healed his wounds with the medicines required. And they also locked him in a room where there was an atlas. There he is notified these farmers are germans. Is this too good to be true? Luka has this feeling of wanting to leave. He stays and helps around in the barn for a while until he leaves for his journey. 

Many significant events happened as well as historical significance. From 1934 until his death in 1945, Adolf Hitler was the ruler of Nazi Germany. He was the man who started World War II and ordered people to be slaughtered based on their ethnicity, including the murder of six million Jewish men, women, children, and newborns, which became known as The Holocaust.Just after death of Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin rose to power as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Russia, gradually becoming the Soviet dictator. For more than two decades, Joseph Stalin governed the Soviet Union, establishing a reign of misery and murder while modernising Russia and assisting in the defeat of Nazism.When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, World War II began. In response, the United Kingdom and France declared war on Germany. On May 7, 1945, Germany surrendered, bringing the war in Europe to a close. On September 2, 1945, Japan surrendered, bringing the Pacific War to a close.  

I thought the author did a good job when luka remembers how his father teaches him to use the resources around you to help heal the wound. The resources he used were honey and milk. This taught me how that the solution to our problems are right upon our fingertips. The con that could have been better was when luka stayed at margrete and helmuts barn. The author could have made it more interesting like for ex. Luka finds a secret door in Martin's room. What will luka find in there? These events make the reader more engaged with the book as we try to solve a puzzle to figure out what it would be. More of like keeping the reader guessing. I recommend this book to readers who like wars/warfare and readers who like reading a person's rough journey. This book involves violence (world war 2, bombs, weapons, slavery, etc.). I loved reading this book. Chapter after chapter kept me reading and engaged with the book. I learnt how to figure out things by using what you know and what you have. I've had a fantastic experience reading underground soldier.
