Walk Two Moons Book Analysis Essay Example

The prompt I chose was to describe one setting from the novel “Walk Two Moons“ and why it’s important to a character or the plot. In my essay, I will be writing about Bybanks, Kentucky, and why it’s important to Salamanca Tree Hiddle, the protagonist of the story.

Sal grew up and lived in Bybanks Kentucky her whole life with her mom and dad on a farm. One day her mother left and never came back. Sometime after this, Sal and her father moved to Euclid Ohio, even though she didn’t want to. Sal didn’t like her new home in the City and wanted to go back home.

Bybanks was important to Sal because she had many memories of her life and family. Sal thought of Bybanks as “paradise“, because Bybanks is filled with wildlife, farm animals, swimming holes, and beautiful open spaces. Sal loves nature and open spaces but her home in Euclid didn’t provide that. 

Sal has many memories of her mother at her farm at Bybanks as well. Sal kept her mother's cut hair and postcards saved under the floorboards of her room. She also has memories of driving her grampa’s tractor on their farm. She remembers swimming in the swimming hole and doing many other things. Sal has many memories of her family in Bybanks which is why she treasures it.

It’s mentioned in the book that Sal’s scared of a lot of things. One thing that she was scared in particular was pregnant women. This fear began after her mother lost her baby during her pregnancy. Soon after the loss of the baby her mother left. Along the novel Sal begins to understand that death is a part of life and realizes that it isn’t too bad of a thing.  

In conclusion, I think the novel “ Walk Two Moons “ by Sharon Creech is an amazing book. I’ve learned many things from the book. One thing I learned was that you can’t have many adventures without friends, I also learned that death is a part of life. I can relate to how Sal feel and like her I could be fearful. Overall I think “ Walk Two Moons “  is an amazing book and I definitely loved it.
