Born Again by Charles W. Colson Literary Analysis Essay

Have you ever taken responsibility for something you didn't do to help save a friend or family member? In Born again a gentleman by the name of Charles Colson was faced with the same decision.

One day a man, who commonly went by the name of Charles, was falsely accused of contributing to the famous 1972 Watergate scandal. This scandal arose when a Republican party broke into one of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. They did this to obtain information about the Democratic party. Being unsuccessful they were caught, and thrown in prison. Everyone can agree that Charles pled guilty, some would say he shouldn't have, while some say he should have. Charles Colson should have pled guilty for three reasons: He helped people in need, his family would be safer, and the Lord told him to.

The first reason Charles Colson should have pleaded guilty is because He helped people in need. Not only did Colson teach them how to love one another but he taught them to rely on God. As a result of this, many men were rescued by Jesus' grace. Because of Colson's actions, he was able to rectify the broken, cure the ill, and preach to the wicked. 

The second reason Charles Colson should have pleaded guilty is because his family would be much safer. One of the many benefits correlated to his arrival was that nobody could hurt his family while he was away. His family was not only being protected by Colson's close friends, but was being protected by God. With Colson thrown in prison, people had obtained what they wanted and did not refer to violence. 

The third reason why Charles Colson should have pleaded guilty is because the Lord told him to. Colson could sense the Lord's peace flowing through him like a wave of electricity flowing through an outlet. He knew where the Lord was leading him, so he followed. Because of this, Colson was able to save many people through God. While he was there he opened a prayer group, and watched as his savior poured life into the lifeless prisoners. Some say Colson shouldn't have pled guilty, they argue that he could have been killed. Almost everyone he crossed paths with tried to brutally beat him. However, this idea is inadequate. God was with Colson through it all. He protected Colson the entire time he was in prison.

In addition people still believe Colson shouldn't have pled guilty, they argue that he didn't do it. However this idea is also inadequate. While Colson may have been an innocent man, God told Colson to plead guilty. Neither of these arguments-he could have been killed, and he didn't do it,- give Colson any reason to disobey God.

Charles Colson should have pled guilty because He helped people in need, his family would be safer, and the Lord told him to. This is important to everybody that Colson was able to help through God.
