Can you imagine not being able to live in your country anymore? Sadly, the characters in the novels, When Stars are Scattered And They Called Us Enemy both have to express that. There are many similarities and differences in the novels When Stars are Scattered and They Called Us Enemy that the reader can noice. Both The camps had healthcare and They both had the chances to go school but one required passing a test to continue attending school.

Initially, They both had healthcare, if they were sick or wounded they could go to get it checked out. The Japanese had a stand where they could get medicine. George Takei says “THERE WAS A STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STABLE AREA WHERE MEDICINE WAS DISPERSED” (33). The Somalis in the refugee camps had a hospital for everybody in the camp. Omar Mohamed says “THE UN OFFICIALS SEPARATED HASSAN AND ME FROM OUR GROUP. THEY SAID WE WERE SICK AND WE NEEDED TO STAY IN THE HOSPITAL.” (188). Both the refugee camp and the internment camp provided healthcare if they ever needed it.

Furthermore, they both had education but the people in the refugee camp had to take a test and pass to continue their education. Omar Mohamed says “SO IF WE DON’T PASS NO MORE SCHOOL” (96). The people in the internment camps did not have to worry about passing a test to keep going to school. George Takei says “I BEGAN MY SCHOOLING THERE AT SANTA ANITA” (34). Both camps had the possibility to go to school but one of them didn’t have the possibility to seek higher education if they did not pass the test.
